    I need a Gilera runner vx125 speedo cable for a job thats in. Bought one, come to fit it and its too short, by 12cm.
    The new cable measures 98.5 cm overall, i need one thats 110cm long. The bike came in without one on so i cant compare it.
    BUT, lucky old me, i had another vx125 in, so tried the new cable against that as well, guess what?, too short still.
    So been calling around the last few days to try and get a longer one, no joy anywhere. Everyone says the 98.5cm cable is the standard fit.
    PS, tried Fowlers, dont bother, unhelpful to say the least.
    Eventually came across Paul at AJ Sutton, and, great bloke, made a few calls himself and came up with what might be a winner, and called me back with the original part number and the contact of someone else and the details of the speedo cable.
    Now this is what is confusing me............. this speedo cable has a 99cm OUTER sheath length, but an INNER cable length of 130cm.
    So how does this work then?
    Does the outer sheath stretch to fit or do i have the inner cable exposed

    you need the outer cable from a gilera "tardis".same length but longer on the inside .common mistake..

    sorry jim, you'll need to explain this one to me.
    From what i'm looking at, the OUTER sheath needs to be 110cm, from clocks to drive.

    If ever I have this problem, I rotate the speedo drive round a a few degree's to accommodate the cable length, shorter or longer, you need to cut off the locating lug but is not an issue!

    @marsh

    Na, it wouldn't be much of an issue, but rotating the speedo drive around to try and make up a shortfall of 11.5cm in cable length, might be.;)

    All sorted now. Spoke with Paul at AJ Sutton, he made a phone call and got me the details and part number of the extended cable. But he did get the size slightly wrong. Anyway, long story short, got the cable, put it on today, not as long as i'd like it to be, could do with being another 5 or 6 cm longer, but thats just my opinion, however it works and it's long enough to do the job.

    The standard cable is 98.5cm long, the one i needed is 110cm, but everyone who supplies them will automatically supply the shorter one. Only once has it been mentioned that maybe there are after market forks fitted, or maybe that the bike should really have digital clocks on instead of analogue. Thing that threw me about the difficulty of getting the cable is the fact that i happened to have another vx125 in at the same time, with analogue clocks and the shorter cable wouldn't fit that either. It's been a nightmare, so much so, that i had actually considered changing the setup to digital just so the customer could have a working speedo. Even looked at speedo cable extensions, as used on chops and harleys and some custom bikes.
