I want to take my carb off for cleaning and want to know the best way to take the throttle cable off ? Previously I've taken the two flat blade screws out an removed the whole sliding unit , but was wondering is there a better way ?

thats the easiest way that you do it...

If you then need the cable out, pull up on the springunder the cap that you remove. This will allow enough slack to remove the cable end from its mount...watch out for bits flying out especially if the spring slips

Take 2 screws out top of slide and draw it out..insert small tie wrap inside spring and draw it closed..insert another tie wrap opposite and do the same..spring is now compressed allowing u to get on. snip tie wraps when throttle cable is reinstalled
