I've managed to find the below, so will try this...

    No puller necessary.

    1) put the case half in the freezer overnight.

    2) quickly heat the aluminum case around the bearing hot.

    3) Flip the case upside down so bearing faces down, and Slam the case off a sturdy wooden surface. Bearing will fall out.

i would advise the puller .... not too keen on hammering/Slamming the bloc to be honest. the last time I ve done something like that a part of broke... :(

Would be quite impressed if you get it out like that though :p

    I failed!

Back to the drawing board for me.

I really cant justify buying a puller, as it will only get used the once.

I ve got a lot of tools I only ever used once... but you will see the joy on my face when I have to use them for a second time! :)

I am against doing dodgy work.. get the tools and do it properly :) You cant really work on a bike with 2 screwdrivers and a set of spanners :p

    I hear you & agree.

I'm just thinking I would get more benefit from buying a Dremmel... you see what I'm thinking now? ;)

lol ... my dremmel is locked and I am under strict instructions not to touch it! otherwise I would start going on everything and would end up wrecking my cases and my cylinder.

Dremmel to remove bearings?... o_O that sound like the type of dodgy work Im was talking about above :p

If you are in the Glasgow area you are more than welcome to come over and we get your bearings out by the way. :)

You'll be there all day with a dremmel and still not get it out. The bearing races are toughened so will just heat up over time as you cant get enough pressure to cut through the race. Also you'll not get to the outer race in its recess to be able to cut through enough to get it out.
I used a grinder with 1mm cutting disc on a crank bearing and it took ages, plus you have to make sure you dont touch the crank with the grinder or overheat things

Easiest way is to take the case to a local garage, they'll charge you a few quid for taking them out. It'll save the cases and your frustration over the rest of the week trying to solve the problem.... or buy a puller and sell it on afterwards. Theres some blind bearing pullers on ebay for around £55 if you look hard enough

I tried using a dremmel on wheel bearing...it cut through them EVENTUALLY but i still couldn't get the races out and it damaged the wheel beyond repair.

I then got a bearing puller off ebay...a really small for about £45 and it took them out in under 2 minutes.

Don't use a dremmel anywhere near your cases!!

Damn folks.. leave the dremmel alone!... Pullers are the correct tool!... As u33db said, 2 minutes with it and it s done. Not that expensive and will save you time and hassle.

That's the best advice you could be given. I own a bearing puller and I would still do that.

Heating it up never seems to work. I've grinded out a bearing before with a dremel but you have to have some pretty good dremel skills not to fuck your cases and it's a insanely long job for no good reason.
