i have a 2001 yamaha neos (50) de restricted sports exhaust 5.5 gram rollers upjetted 15% currently goes 50mph while cold but only 45mph when the engine is warm when its cold acceleration is quick and smooth... when its warm it is slower and its not smooth acceleration at all. any ideas what could be causing this? how to make it go EVEN faster without too much effort/money. i dont want to install a 70cc kit and i wan to avoid taking apart the engine too much. what mods can i do now? ((still pretty new to scooter tuning ))
wat derestrictions have u removed try going up a bit more on the jet see if it cures your hot hesitation could also be plug breaking down at high temp or lead at high temp try replacing this Malossi_TC_unit_without_rev_limiter_for_Minarelli_engines also try a better sparkplug and a new foam air filter and maybe some carbon fibre race reeds
Wouldn't listen to the above about fitting a foam air filter, couldn't be give much worse advice. They do SFA on a pretty much standard bike, if you're looking for more speed your engine needs more capacity so a 70 kit would be the next logical step. I wouldn't worry too much about the running of the kit as long as you can have it fitted properly as the sport kits if looked after can run just as well as a stock part. If you want to get the most out of how it is, then piss about with the transmission but a 70 kit should be the next step. :good:
I agree with Gamble, he always talks sense. The only other welcome addition to this setup is a variator as the aerox/neos can benefit from these more than most. But grab a 70 kit and if you've got the dough maybe a larger carb but its not essential. Then you will fly! I agree with Martain in the way of replacing the spark plug if it has been in it for a while and also the air filter if its knackered but just original equipment parts not upgrades.
OK thatks, but i was wondering do all NEO'S have a restricted CDI mine is quite old (2001) so i'm not too sure... also i have removed the variator restricter and replaced the exhaust that was restricted. i dont really think i'd be able to upgrade to a 70 kit myself and its pretty expensive. and i'm guessing that its not normal for performance to change drastically with engine temperature
im sick of you lot u all thiunk u know it all i shant bother with this site no more i leave to your perfetic lifes where u think u know everything enjoy riding your peds that dont make it to a 100mph because u beleive in wifes tales no wonder it dont get a lot of posts
No Neo's have restricted CDI's. Your strange performance could be down to carburettor setup or general wear such as warn rings. It depends on how many miles your bike has done. Martain you seem to talk a lot of crap. There is a forum rule on giving bad advice which says not to do it.
MY APPOLIGIES FOR MY BAD TEMPER U ALL SEEM TO HAVE A DIFFERENT IDEA OF TUNING TO ME AND THATS FAIR PLAY ILL JUST KEEP MY OPINIONS TO MYSELF FROM NOW ON SORRY IF I OFFENDED ANYONE JUST HAD A BAD DAY FAIR PLAY TERRO IF YOU DONT AGREE WITH MY METHODS OF TUNING I HAVE BEEN A QUALIFIED BIKE MECHANIC FOR A DECADE AND HAVE BEEN RIDING BIKES AND FIXING/RESTORING THEM SINCE I COULD I HAVE A LOT OF BIKES AND CARS BUT ILL JUST KEEP MY MOUTH SHUT AND MY OPINIONS TO MY SELF AGAIN MY APPOLIGIES FOR BEING SO RUDE
It's not about opinions, it's the fact that you're saying things that have not only been covered many times on here and every time we arrive at the same conclusion. Not to mention the post about how you believe a 125 with a race pipe, bigger jet and lighter rollers could beat a 172 which is clearly an A class load of bollocks. I try and give advice where I can and occasionally get it wrong but you seem to continue to give bad advice and I'm not going to second guess you as a 'mechanic' however your skill in fuckwittery is incredible. As for building all of the above and racing bikes, you sound like a 16 year old with a Runner trying to be a big man over the Internet. May be wrong, but it's your fault it's coming across this way. No one else.
FAIR PLAY LIKE I SAID I AINT GONNA POST ANY MORE COMMENTS ILL LEAVE IT UP TO YOU GUYS AND ILL HAPPILY SHOW YOU PICS OF MY COLLECTION MOSTLY BRITISH BIKES TRIUMPHS VELOCETTE'S BSA'S RARE MOPEDS IF YOU DOUBT THAT IS BUT IM NO KEYBOARD WARRIOR AND IM NOT GONNA ARGUE THE POINT WITH YOU IF YOU SAY YOUR RIGHT IM HAPPY TO LEAVE IT AT THAT
Not saying I'm right on anything mate and don't feel that you shouldn't post. Try not to post on an opinion if someone's wanting fact. Like I said not doubting anything you're saying just seems if you've got all this expertise you should post like it? Definitely get some pictures up though, people love something new on here.
i see what your both saying and i dont like to argue with people specaially when im hijacking someone elses post i suggested the CDI as a fact for the reason it states in its listing it removes the restriction ok so 10k is a lot of revs but a 2 stroke loves to rev rev rev, and i said a bike with the same amount of money spent on mods maybe you have done this test i dont know as i dont know you but id like to see the difference cc does not mean more power, rgv250 race tuned vs rg500 standard i just think most peple come to the asumption cc is power and that is not the case in my opinion i also stated fact about his hesitation problem maybe his filter as could b covered in ahite and not drawing air in i dont know im just trying to cover the basics (i fort all standard mopeds had foam filter in the airbox?) plus plug lead and jetting i always state for my opinion like u say your not always right and neither am i which is why i say imo
Yes there's being wrong and then there's arguing with tried and tested advice that's been gone over many times on here and unfortunately people on here when looking for advice will take it on board, spend money and end up with a disappointing result. There's giving an opinion on what maybe a problem would be but when it comes to tuning there's a difference between your opinion and fact. Both of which so far have been miles apart so far.
OK well i doubt the piston rings aretoo worn - i've only done 2000 miles.. i'll chech my spark plug and wiring for that. i'll try upjetting a bit more if that doesnt work... thanks for the help guys
your opinion on cc is not the point, the fact is most 50cc moped barrels are shit, there not rg barrels and deffinatly DO NOT make more power the more rpm you hit. air filters are just shocking advice spat out by the max power crowd. you only need use an air filter when you exced the flow dynamics of the airbox. wich you just plain wont do on most 50cc barrels... advice is based on experience. you have lots of experience, but treat an unknown quantity (a scooter) the same as you would an all out race bike. this is just not the case as once again, the stock parts are made to go 30 mph and return good fuel econimy. back on topic. transmision in minarelli engines is shockingly small/shit. you can get gains from upgrading this but its simply making the most of the power you allready have. short of a cylinder kit your really not gonna make any more power. a 2 stroke engine has 3 moving parts essentially, if these 3 parts are shit to begin with the logical thing would be to replace them. 70 kits are made to go fast... stock 50's are made to last ages at full throttle (ie 30,000 miles) theres some helpfull advice above. but tbh i think your expecting a bit much from the stock kit. if you do get any more power out of it it will only be at the expence of heat, fuel econimy and life. bigger kits are made better, have an obvious larger capacity and usually made to a much higher level, meaning usually a 3 fold increase (yes, 3 times stock power) and similar lifespan... its not an all out race engine nor a de tuned race engine, its a shitty lil scooter that you can make into an all out race engine, this requires a decent cylinder tho. its 6 bolts to fit the kit and by FAR the best power for your dosh your ever gonna get. the only people who dont want to fit a 70 kit are those that have NEVER actually used one. trust in the above advice and save up... or deal with the fact your bike does 50. as for the heating problems/poor performance when hot, you will probably find its down to one of a few things. sticky choke (most probable) then again, there manual if i remember correctly so make suire its actually in the off position... an ignition fault (again, change for a new factory specific plug/cap) lean mixture causing heat thus killing off power or a generally worn engine. all of these is easily spotted by whipping the head off and checking the piston (if of course its not just the choke or the plug)
