until it runs out of petrol

an air cooled scooter cools its self just as well as an LC, unless you take the fan off the flywheel of course.

i ride my SR anything from 10 to 200 miles at a time, just stopping as and when i need fuel. the old GSX-r 1100s were AC, you don't see those stopping half way round cadwell to cool down.

the only advantage to an LC is that the cooling is more constant, therefore the tolerances can be closer in the barrel.

its not riding it that makes it overheat, sitting in traffic causes it. as wobbely said if you cant ride it untill the fuel runs out theres sommin not right

the only reason bikes have oil coolers is to actually sell bikes. back in the 70's-80's there was a big serge in fitment of oil coolers so people fitted them. so obviously the manufactor's fitted them to boost sales. they divert the oil into a hotter place so the coller actually serves a function.

    yeah they were but SHHHHH!!!

i was trying to make an example. erm, how about the RD400, that was AC

as minor said oil collers are pretty much for show on many bikes, the racing stuff used them but now we're miles offtopic.

Poor throttle response, lack of power, unusual noises, heat seizes... the list goes on.

You can get gauges and a thermostat wired up easily if it concerns you that much.

or get the new koso clocks and get the adapter that fits onto the spark plug for the AC engine, for engine temp ;) :p

Still, I wouldnt know what temp its supposed to be as I never had the need before :emb: ...anyone know?

shouldnt full throttle for prolonged periods of time, just back off to about 3/4, and kill about 3 mph, saves a lot of engine wear and stress.

in saying that, my area51 used to work flat out almost constantly.

Went to Burton on Trent on my AC Bajaj 125 only stopping for fuel and fags. It never missed a beat in 200 miles.

VW beetles and campers run every day without seizing, so do Citroen 2CVs
