Hi, my gauge on my gilera runner 172cc dont work, i am wondering as when i got it the guy lied saying they was nothing wrong and then i found the gearbox had gone.. thanks to you all on here i have managed to do my first scooter gearbox :) but since i dont trust the lad and i dont think on 172 kits they hook up a sensor even though it looks to have one  i am wanting to know if there is any way to definatly tell if the water is circulating as i dont want to blow a head gasket.. Thanks.. Martin

The non working temp gauge could just be a dodgy spade connector on the thermal sensor on the cylinder head, or the sensor its self.

if you whip the horn cover off youll see a thin hose that goes to the top of the expansion tank, this is the return hose, if you take the cap off the tank (not when its hot) you will see water feeding into the top of the expansion tank (if waters circulating) and only when the thermostat is open.

    yep it'll work...

but seriously if you didnt have any water circulating around your engine, how far do you think you would be able to ride before your engine over heated and seized ??
