rite then i should be selling my kymco and buying a slider and they top out at 40mph so just wondered how hard it is and how you fit the gear up kits. how much speed should these add
firstly you will have to get the gears pressed, so you will need to take the gears to someone with a 15ton press strip the rear wheel, exhaust helps, and the clutch, then undo the gear plate bolts and pull gear plate off (remembering to drain the gear oil) then take out the primary gear (if your fitting a primary gear up which you will be) its the one on the left, then put the new one in, refit everything and refill with gear oil what you might find is you have to strip the gearbox, take the old gear to the place with the press, get it unpressed, then repressed with the new gear
spot on but a quick tip; leave the wheel on and use the brake so you can stop the clutchshaft from turning as you undo it
i usually use an impact wrench for that but yeh thats a good way as well, much better then some of the scary looking screwdriver wodge jobs ive seen
on what? the gearbox? if the gasket is gone then you should replace the gasket, otherwise it should be fine with the normal gasket i hate that gasket in a tube stuff, never really liked it at all
rite then no probs wit the press my borther has a 300 ton press at work wha tsorts of speed would you be lookin at with a gear up kit ? on a yamaha slider
i thought yamaha used minarelli vertical motors? ive been told so many times that its good but its just the fact that its not suposed to be used! there should be a gasket for that particular place and id rather fit the gasket then put the gasket in a tube in, purely because it feels almost like a bodge! and with the gearup i think your gonna have to look more into this, the standard gears may be lower then average but a gearup is going to be too powerful for a standard bore, so a 70cc will be needed to pull the gearup
missed my point... gear plates DONT HAVE gasgets.. and other parts are machined so they only need a skim of silicone to seal them as the surfaces are perfectly flat (YOUR crankcase has it on from the factory) silicone can be better than a gasget in some respects especially when using barrel spacers where using a gasget ether side will give WAY too much clearance between the head/barrel (squish) so ye, be brave and trust the silicone. gasgets are card afterall
