Hello guys. How can you tell the difference between series 1 - series 2 on the Piaggio 125 engines? Series 1 ? Series 2? Series 3?
series one and 2 are both old shape engines so have a 108mm drum. the series 1 has a different shjape engine number plate. (where the numbers are stamped its different basicly) the new shape engines have a nut on the outside of the case with a floating imput shaft. they came in 200mm drum and disk. you can get wc in series 2 old shape and new shape but they didnt do any wc engines back when the series one was made. hope this helps
the engine number on all piggys (prittymuch) is a small rectangle at the back of the engine, the setries 1 125 engine had an iregular plate (like the dna 50 engine) its bigger and just looks like a big flat part of the casing rather than a thicker casting. easily tell the difference when you see one as they just dont look right.
Ok lets see if I have got this right. The BIG square number plate is from a series 1, and the smaller one is from a series 2, and series 2 can have the same shape one the sidecatsing as the series 1? Series 1 Series 2
now how good am i for spotting that (did anyone actually know about these engines?) just remember replacment cranks are impossible to find. so be prepared to replace the entire engine or mod the entire case for a stock size crank
dose any 1 no if they is a talk setting on the series 3 clutch nut if so wat is it as i dont want the nut coming of and hitting me in the head cheers
wind it by hand untill it pulls the clutch all the way forward (shaft wont come any further out) then hit it a couple times with an impact wrench. around 30nm is fine but too tight an the bearing will be crushed an wear out verry quickly
Minor, What did you say about aftermarket cranks for series 1? I have a series 1,2 and 3...which would be the best to build up as a 172?
the series 3 (its actually a new shape engine with the nut on the outside of the case as the series 1 and 2 are old shape an the series 3 is just called a new shape) but ye there the best as the gearbox bearings/supports arnt part of the engine casing. just the gear plate an tranny cover. also theuy can be used for disk and ether ac or wc..
well if it isnt on the top of the engine close to the rear wheel, there was never one there. think logically, must be up top or fluid will leak out
old shape small drum (108mm) series 1 and 2 dont have one. theres 2 nuts behind the wheel.. bottom to drain, fill it till it comes out the top one.
I had a quick look at my series3 engine and after i took the tran case off, i couldnt pull of the clutch/torque driver?? Is there a method of getting it off or am i just being pussy and not pulling hard enoughLOL Thanks
