Hi....I have a minor problem with the kickstart on my Sky SGX Deluxe......it don't return to the up position, presumably there must be a return spring inside the casing......not much of a job is it ?......Del.
Take the front case of by undoing all the bolts around it, and oil/grease the kick start mechanism on the inside or the front case
Thanks for that.....soon as it warms up will do that.......is there a gasket or anything that I should be aware of ?.......Del.
O.K.....took it apart, checked spring, oiled it, put it back together.....still the same !!.......although the spring is not broken, it must be weak.....best get one ordered.......not sure where from though....anyone any ideas ?
Mmmhhh.......I gotta feeling that I may have put this back together wrong......take it apart again tomorrow and try again......
Have an '86' Vision & the return spring is under some quite serious tension + ratchet needs to be located properly - so it's not just the spring that could be weak. You may also want to check how far the ratchet range of movement is/without the spring fitted - to get an idea of how far it can move without restriction of movement via surrounding parts..
Thanks for that, going to have a serious look at it tomorrow, obviously something is not right......I rebuilt a "J" reg. Vision some years ago, and used it to go to work on ....it would only ever do 28 miles an hour.....in those days I had never heard of de-restriction....but it was a brilliant little machine.
Stripped it down again, applied more oil, re-assembled.....still the same, except I am now getting that rattling sound that you get when the kickstart don't return fully, bungee chord in place.......it's definitely a weak spring, any suggestions where to get one ?.....preferably new......
Ok......have now ordered a new spring, from a company called MSP......six quid, think it coming from Germany......genuine original Honda part.....fingers crossed.......
check if the cog with the worm that the kickstart gear drives is worn. I had this problem. replaced both the cog and the plate on the pulley it drives against. it fixed the problem as the kickstart gear was jamming on the worm part of the cog. it had worn away on the side near the casing and was tapered instead of paralell.
Thanks for that, there is a little bit of wear on that half moon shaped thing, just at the beginning of the teeth, but everything is moving freely.....hopefully with a new spring it will be ok.
O.K....A lesson learned !!....or rather, a lesson REMEMBERED, if you are gonna do something, do it PROPERLY !!....after watching a Youtube video, on kickstart spring replacement, I discovered that the spring should be under some tension when it goes in, so took the cover of mine again, took it apart, and re-assembled it PROPERLY.....I also discovered that the small circlip on the kickstart shaft, was not sitting in it's groove, thus allowing movement, and allowing the spring to go UNDER the half moon thing ......all back together now and working fine.....a £13 lesson, 6 something for spring, six something delivery....I won't cancel it, it may prove useful one day.....if this helps someone, then all well and good.
