Hi! I recently picked up a used honda lead, high mileage but all in all seemed like a great bike. I noticed recently the engine always had no oil on the dipstick (not a precision instrument I know) I added more oil, let the bike run, nothing came out. Left it overnight, in the morning, nothing in it again according to the stick (which was at 1/2 the previous night) so I was pondering, went down all my usual thought processes, I'm not very familiar with the JF19-W engine it has inside of it. This morning I topped it up again, went for a ride, noticed something. The left side cover, was wet. Huh odd I thought, so I touched it, oil. So my question is for people who know the engines or where they could point me; is there meant to be oil under the left side cover? I'd expect so since it seems to fit directly to the crankcase. So where else should I be looking? Its had 700ml of oil in 1 month. Normally always read empty. (700ml is an entire oil change) The engine though, isnt running hot, doesnt smoke, doesnt leave oil behind itself. So am I poking down the right tree, or not?
Its quite the high mileage engine for a 110. My next plan is to give the left side a tear-down (where the oil is coming from) to see if there's anything obvious, would make sense its either the seals or gasket since 15 year old at 50000 mile. Would point to those things, really.
So an update! We've ripped the engine apart, looked at everything and decided to rebuild the top-end in a hope and a pray this will sort it, new barrel and piston, seals, gaskets and the like! Lets see if this fixes it shall we!
