what can you do to tune them up abit? i aint got a cluw what would help or what to buy for it, just want better performance as its only 13bhp any ideas people? same as what you get on the CG's ect
honda all the usual four stroke stuff.bigger valves, race cam,etc although i wouldnt touch it. cg engines are really low tuned so they can go on for miles.as i remember there is a euro only model cg150.might be worth looking on ebay for the top end off one of these
oh really...... well why is 2 stroke modification dying out? there was a time when pretty much every bike on the road was a good old 2 stroke. But nowadays 4 stroke tuning is very favourable. as Minor has said before, and as i have since found out, the only way to tune a four stroke is by fitting a bigger capacity cylinder (big bore) or working on the head, 4 strokes dont have ports they have valves which are on the head, soooooo bigger valves are a start. its alot more complex on a four stroke than a 2 stroke, and the power gains aren't as noticeable as they are on 2 strokes. i don't its worth modifying a stock 4 stroke motor, if you can get a big bore kit for it and then you can go from there
tuning a 2stroke is much better yet every car used in racing is 4stroke tuning a 4stroke is simpler but more expensive for what you get, its back to the good old bigger is better.
i was talking in the context of scooters , ther arent many tuning parts out there for 4strokes as there are 2's and the ones that are out there are normally more expenive, thats why 2strokes are better to tune
i am tuning a honda xl125 atm its a ohc pushrod engine i droped a part in it so had to strip it so thort fuk it ill give it a bash. so ive ported and polished the head look ace it was a joy to work on all i need now is gaskets to build it up and find out the diff its only a £50 shitter motox bike but i had grunt to power wheelie in the first place so i say give its a bash if it goes tits up honda engine can be found anywhere. oh and reliability they last for ever as std so mod it and it probs still out last u
4 stroke isn't more favourable, government legislation on emmissions has forced the good old 2 strokes off the road, hence all these fuel injected scooters and stupidly small carbs to try to scrape through the newest tree huggers legislation True to an extent, but carburation and exhausts still have an effect on 4 stroke engines as well as compression and both valve and ignition timing. I would beg to differ, any engine is worth modifying for power gains, no matter how tiny, who was it that first realised that they could genarate 70bhp from a 500cc single 4 stroke (more than many 1 liter cars produce) that is only from someone getting hold of a basic engine and modifying it. the only difference is that 4 stroke bolt-on parts are much more expensive due to the mechanical complexity. if you look at the workings of a 2 stroke engine, they are extremely complex in the terms of gas dynamics however, mechanically there's nothing to them, wheras the 4 stroke is simple in dynamics but complex in engineering terms.
