hi folks im nelly or nel ,im 46 and a member of various forums rd, aircooled v strom t4 metal detecting etc etc ive had loads of bikes but never had a scooter now both my lads have bought [ with my help ] a "ped" a 2002 100cc Yamaha aerox a 2005 gilera runner 125 vx so im gonna need some help im sure im from hucknall in Nottingham anyway ive not had time to even look at the aerox yet as the runner is keeping me busy for now so far . its had ; air filter oil filter plug oil a new starter bendix gear a new tyre next , not looking forward to removing the exhaust to get to the wheel off it a bit dirty but the engine is sweet as a nut ,it runs really well no nasty knocks or rattles 1 owner and judging by the state of the rust everywhere he must have used it all year round for commuting BUT [ here it comes .I hear you say ] it struggles to start when left for a few hours it appears to be flooding ,so if I take the [wet] plug out and turn it over for a couple of seconds to get rid of the excess fuel in the bore ,clean the plug and replace it ,it fires up straight away I believe its either the tap thing under the small tank or the float level or a the jet not seating properly in the carb now if it had a proper fuel tap like im used to , surely if I turned it off it would stop the flooding so how do I rectify this, without chucking money at it needlessly, where do I look first? thanks guys and gals hope to hear from you knowledgeable guys soon nel
hi and welcome to the forum, carbs not really my thing as more into injected systems myself but a tap off ebay is a few quid and easy enough to fit, done them a few times myself and putting one in on my ped soon, just cut the fuel line at where you want the tap to go and connect either ends with a clip over both ends where the fuel lines connect to the tap. sounds like the easiest solution to me, this is what id do if it runs and rides fine once started anyway.
Vacumn tap, Disconnect vacumn pipe from intake adapter / fuel feed pipe from carb., have something to catch fuel from feed pipe- then gently suck on vacumn pipe., If this does'nt cause fuel to flow by moving of diaphram- you could have a stuck diaphram.blocked vacumn pipe.blocked fuel pipe or blocked tap filter .mk.
Greetings and welcome Try to not continuously crank the bike, short 3 second bursts on the button if enough. The carbs are small and flood really quickly
thanks guys but mark I don't think anything is blocked as its flooding when stood there,s no fuel shortage sorry perhaps I didn't explain properly and stevep that's a good tip ,thankyou thanks again all
mark hardly knows what he is talking about and mark hardly anyone can understand the way you bloody type man! if it runs fine once started, Id be looking at the way you start it or do what seems to be the easiest thing for you and install a fuel tap
"the way I start it" don't you just press the button? lol all the bikes ive had ,when cold pull the choke out ,let it idle, then slowly turn choke off til it idles without any choke one pipe from tank to carb , theres pipes all over these things but no manaual choke yes id thought about fitting a manual tap but how would he get to it when all the plastics are on? I reckon im gonna go with that poxy tap thing below the secondary fuel tank if that don't work im stuck big time help meeeeeeeeeeeeeeee just don't want to keep replacing parts willy nilly as hes getting fed up with spending on it already I told him he better get used to it lol
btw ive had the carb off today , it wasn't dirty at all but I cleaned all the jets out anyway and re-set the float level as it was very slightly too high then it took ages to re-start just to refill all those bloody pipes I left it running for half an hour to warm up then turned it off it started straight away , then left it for an hour and it started again now im gonna leave it till tomoz and see what happens in the morning I just know it wont have it
how long you press the button in, or kick it, if you pull on the throttle and if you do how much etc, usually should just start straight off the button with very little throttle, and not have to be cranked over and over which is usually what floods the engine. you may want to be carful with some scoots just leaving them to run for half an hour at a time, they can overheat easily if its aircooled, not sure if yours is aircooled or watercooled just thought id put that up though. if you have the same issue tomorrow as you did before take the carb off again and see where the float is, and if its back where it was before being reset start looking at why its gone back there, cant be much help more help as im no good with carbs, im going to be running a inline tap on mine, ill be able to just reach under the panel to turn the tap off, but then again probably too much hassle/pain in the arse for him to be doing when he turns it off lol
thanks buddy yes its a vx125 4t theres no kick start and it is indeed water cooled as for starting ,I don't use any throttle ,perhaps il try a tiny bit tomoz ive just tried it and it started on the button no problem I really cant see how the float level could change overnight surely the weight/push of the fuel on the float wouldn,t bend the tang again thanks buddy keep them suggestions coming cuz after only 5 days its started to get on me tits AND ive just tried to start the aerox and that bas@@@d wont go either but the good news is my tw still starts on the button im reckoning that if I was to start a scooter business it,ll have to have a workshop the size of a aircraft hangar to fit in all these shite peds lol are any of them trouble free ?? rant over
the only ped I haven't had trouble with was my baby, my 1992 Honda vision sa50-m never broke down, always got me where I wanted and always put a smile on my face. if your having issues with any ped might be worth talking to hairyjim. hes a absolute legend and can usually help with any issue on peds.
type in hairyjim in the search bar on the main page, youll soon find him, click his name, a little box will appear and one of the options will say start conversation, click that and your on your way
THANKS AGAIN BUDDY but I think you have hit the nail on the head my friend!!! after taking in what said about the" way I start it" ive just been to try and start it and it dint go first time BUT; I then tried holding it at about quarter throttle whilst hitting the button and it started easily so I tried it again the same way and bingo only time will tell , so I will let you know what happens in the morning when its been stood all night thanks again [ fingers crossed ]
UPDATE;; couldn,t wait til morning AND ......................................................... it............................................................................................wont f@@@ing start again
Think of it this way, you could go out tommorow and buy the exact same make/model- may be in even worse condition but fair keep going o.k. for years, one of thosr things unfortunatly, Sadly some get a terminal put-off cause of this or sit down lay it out an where will it be best to go from here. .
pull the carb and see If the floats moved.. if its flooding while its stood then theres something up, how im a mechanic and don't know anything about carbs I don't know  im sure hairyjim will be along at some point if you haven't already messaged him.
