Hi just brought a stage 6 racing kit , got like 4 gaskets am i right in thinking its for the squish clearnce.(sorry on spelling). If so ive looked everywere and still do not how to do it .Will one gasket just be enough , or ssay the papper one and metal one .
you have to measure the squish and use the gasket that gives you the desired clearance, assemble the top end, hook some solder down the plug hole, and turn the engine over by hand, the solder will get crushed between the piston and head, now measure the crushed solder with some vernier calipers...this is the measurement of your squish. I set mine to 0.8mm as a nice safe limit for road use, some people run 0.6mm.
Right thans for that. WHat should it really be set at then ?. Say its 0.6 and i needed 0.8..surly suing another gasket will make it twice as much ,as the gaskets doesnt look different sizes maybe the papper one i asume. Also most 50cc ,70cc just put one gasket.WHat would be wrong doing this as i use t oon my 70cc ploni hast iron .
The gaskets supplied with the kit are all different thicknesses, a thicker gasket gives a larger squish area, and a thinner gasket obviously gives a smaller squish area...
