so i was riding around for about 10mins today as i got the piaggio zip i purchased a few days ago on the road havnt ridden it before this. all of a sudden the bikes engine died (i think it siezed as there was no sound apart from the clutch bell going round). So to see if my thoughts were right i took the cylinder head and cylinder off to see scratches in either side of the cylinder and piston is this heat seizing ?

afraid thats heat seizure. Need to find out why its happened firstly. Check jet sizes if you're running a performance pipe or air filter, check crank seals too as if they're buggered too much air will get into the mix and make it run lean. Check the 2 stroke tank is full and that the pumps working

As for the barrel, you MIGHT get away with a hone, piston & rings...just depends on how deep the scratches are. its difficult to tell from pics

Don't think it's running lean the spark plugs a coffee brown but how would I check the seals without splitting the case also got a funny dealing it could be to do with the fact that when I bought the bike there wasn't the case covering the cylinder for the air to flow around, how much is it going to cost me to get my cylinder honed.

if its air cooled you need the plastic covers for the cylinder to keep it cool.
while you have it apart why not fit something with a bit more poke than the stock. you can get a decent malossi cast iron 70 barrel for just over £90

it takes us about 30 seconds to hone cylinders at work, not sure how much we charge tho! get the shroud, thats probably the cause of the overheating

Don't have the money for the 70s kit now so that has to wait. Also is anyone selling a shroud ?
