    Hi all,
I bought a Gilera Runner FXR a couple of years ago as a project. Its an import from the Isl Of Man so needs putting back together as it was bought as a box of bits. When I first bought the bike i spent a little time on it (powder coated wheels, scorpion exhaust, OKI 24mm cab etc. However, after a trip to Corfu I have been inspired upon seeing all of the scoots bombing about to finally finish it, get it registered and start using it :)

I have two issue that I am scratching my head about at present.

The first is that I have pretty much replace most of the water and fuel hoses because some were missing and some were perished. I am a little confused at the size of the outlet on the runners expansion tank at the bottom. It seems to be rather large in comparison to fixing on the top of the radiator. I can find a hose that will fit the expansion tank, but the diameter seems to be too large for the radiator. Can anybody confirm that..
1, the hose does go from the bottom of the expansion tank, to the top of the radiator
2, the two connectors are of different sizes as I am wondering if the expansion tank is the right one for my scoot

The second issue is that I have changed the carb on recommendation to a 24mm flat slide OKI. The problem there is that there is no input for the vacuum hose that operates the fuel tap. Has anybody else had to overcome this issue, and if so how?

    Thanks in advance

    Andy

It could be from Jersey. I will need to look at the docs but your probably right.

As far as the speed in which I have been tackling the project, I would be the first to say that it has taken a bit of a back seat. I was using my Vespa to get about on but that developed a problem (yet to have a look at that), but the weather has been more than acceptable for me to be able to use the GT. My wife bought an MG Midget so I have been distracted by that. I extended my Garage at the start of the year, and we have just extended the house so its been a bit manic to be fair. My trip to Corfu has just inspired me to push forward with the Runner and start using it :)

Well I have decided that this is the time to get the FXR on the road. Posted another thread about problems with the thermostat housing/bleed screw issues, but just found this old thread of mine and thought for continuity I would resurrect this thread. :) .

Just to keep everyone up to date, I broke the thermostat housing by trying to free of the bleed screw. Ordered a replacement housing and bleed screw but there was a miss match in the two meaning the screw didn't block the hole. Been advised that a plastic skull cap and thermostat housing will provide a suitable replacement. (Thanks Marsh :) ).

Anyways, the scoot has no coolant in due to the problems with the system not being complete, but I just couldn't wait......hooked the new battery up, tweaked the new carb, and after a couple of prolonged presses on the starter motor the breast fired up :). Cut it off straight away and left it 5 mins, then tried again. Instant start :). When I get my new skull cap and sort cooling out it's just a matter of a week before MOT, register, insurance and the road. Whoop :)
