My 2007 NRG Power LC (Polini 70s kit) has started leaking coolant from the bottom of the gearbox case!

I didn't even think the coolant went into that part of the engine, basically as you look at the side of the gearbox casing you have the plastic cover that says "controlled air flow" and just below that there is a small gap where the casing's fit together and for whatever reason Piaggio have left a small hole there, that is where the coolant is leaking from.

Anyone know how it is getting there? Maybe the barrel bottom gasket? Hoping it's not crankcase seals or something like that but I wouldn't have thought the coolant could be in the crankcase itself, isn't there normally a water jacket kind of thing? Also anyone know where the waterpump is?

Oh forgot to say that the engine is running sweet, so can't see that any water/coolant is getting into the combustion chamber.

It's probably the gasket as polini sports blow gaskets when they're liquid cooled, As that's cheapest to fix do that first then if that doesn't work do your water pump.

what you want to do is clean everything up and run it with the tranny case off and just look where it comes from

Blew it to pieces on my way to work this morning. God damn Monday morning stupidness. Forgot to top it up as I hadn't got round to sorting it out. Piston has melted at two o'clock as you look at it, where the ring separator thing is. Bit of scuffing/damage to the bore but not too bad, piston is a write off but thinking to salvage the barrel, might give it a polish up and buy a new piston and rings, gasket set, etc.

Any ideas if the head can warp or go out of shape from the heat? It's just that it was stuck on really tight and the gaskets/o'rings where all melted

Does anyone know somewhere I can get it rebored if I have to?

Lap the cylinder head on a sheet of glass to make sure it's flat.

depending on how bad the scoring is, you may get away with a hone instead of full rebore. It might be slightly down on power tho'
