help my piston rings have snapped is it worth repairing

    hi all i took my bike to get checked becouse it wouldnt start its a 1999 gilera runner T reg. i payed 200 pounds on repairs on its water pump a mnth or 2 back but now ive foun out they have broke and the place has put a 2nd hand piston top end in. the question is will it really effect my performance? and i payed 650 for the bike and have nearly spent that much repairing the bike

    it will probably improve performance, rings only snap when they are badly worn.

    runners, complete waste of time :w00t:

    anyway, a top-end shouldn't be too expensive

    A second hand top end on???

    Why bother when it will be nearly worn out and new ones are so cheap??

    instead of paying this ripoff garage £100's get a hayes manual ffs... piston rings cost what £20-? and its an hours work :nerd:

    it WILL need barrel and piston too ifthe rings have snapped

    yeh...i was tellin him to just get a 70 kit on it...similar sorta price...

    Barrel might be ok if its the std one, just a quick hone... depends if it got marked.

    if the ring has snapped it willhave taken a good chunk out of it.unlessmiraculouslyit went into one ofthe ports and stayed there

    Being Cast iron they take a good beating and still survive... changes are it spat the ring out the port into the exhaust...

    i must have rare rings then, mine always go around the boost ports and wipe the lot out. (speaking from 3 instances ofthis happening)

    Well if its dont the same thing 3 times, sounds like results of a problem not purely ring failure ;)

    its after about 12,000 miles after the rings have gone right off, my fault for not replacing them.
