As you can tell from the subject i need help. i have recently turned 16, wanting to buy a scooter and know absolutely nothin about them. so first of all could you tell me what some things do such as variator and rollers and anything else usefull you could tell me also could you tell me what you think would be a good first bike. thanks and sorry for being a noob :w00t:
The variator and rollers control the speed/accelleration of a bike with auto transmission. You shouldn't need to fiddle with those if the bike runs ok. I'm sure there are others on here who have their favourite bikes, but if you are a first time rider with little technical knowledge, I'd recommend going for any Honda or Yamaha 50. Italian bikes can be tempramental, as can Chinese ones. If you don't have the technical ability to repair them, you'd be better off with a bike that won't let you down and be a disappointment.
well I was thinking of getting a suzuki zillion which my mate is selling for £300 and has a £200 exuast that he only brought bout 2 months ago and also new rollers, variators (mallosi) and he is getting every panel re done an sprayed for me. mileage is 40,000 km what do you think of that?
Well, Suzuki make good reliable bikes. Have the parts your mate put on his bike been set up properly? Suzuki 50s have a bit of a reputation for being difficult to derestrict. This won't bother you yet though as at 16 you are restricted to 30 mph. Riding a derestricted ped at your age will bring you a world of pain if you get stopped by the Police. To be honest a Suzuki wouldn't be my first choice, but it sounds like you are halfway to making your mind up!
yeh its been properly run in im sure as he is a mechanic at college, you say i am restricted at 30 but i dnt know a single person whos ped is restricted and they never have any problems?
Well, it's your choice, but i had to say it bcause other people read these posts... Have you had a go on it yet?
yamaha 50s are made in italy with italian engines. but the aerox, slider, nitro, stunt etc... are great bikes. personal experience with suzuki's makes me run a mi;le when one is for sale. personally i don't think you can beat the minarelli or piaggio 2 strokes for reliability. i'm running a minarelli 50 (same as yamaha use) and it will do a good 10,000 miles before it needs work. if you are planning on tuning then minarelli and piaggio are your only real options.
Yep Yamaha own Minarelli. They are good engines. I have a Slider and a Malaguti Firefox which has the Aerox engine. The Slider has stood out all Winter and still starts on the button despite infrequent use.
oh, and i sold the runner to morgan, he's now put a sports pipe and mutivar on it... and it runs fine :msn1:
i think the runners is invinsible, it still has good compression :msn1: and is hitting a true 50mph on a good day :msn1:
the minarelli motor has been around since well before the aerox. motorhispania make all yamaha 50cc geared bikes and the italian factories make all the scooters (mbk are built in france to get round import limitations to the uk but are the same bike). the list of minarelli powered scooters is vast as is the list of piaggio powered ones.
