Hi my name is jenksy. I'm from Southampton. I ride a sym symply2 50cc scooter. I'm new to scooters got mine at the end of September 2013. I was finding it hard work cycling up the hills on the way home from work so I decided to treat myself. I spent a bit of time looking at what was available and checking reviews etc. looked around the local dealers. Didn't fancy a to cheap Chinese job, looked at Kymco Agility, Piaggio Zip and Sym Symply. Syms seemed to be quite good quality and a good size for my needs so that's what I went for. Only ride it in the dry (yes I know I'm a whimp!). So far so good, bloody good fun as well just like being a boy again. I ride on a car licence as I'm an old git, mostly 30 speed limits and a bit of 40 which my scooter achieves comfortably. I only do about 16km a day so a 50cc is fine. Getting decent tool kit together as dealer servicing seems a bit steep to be honest but then they have to make a living as well I suppose. I quite enjoy having a little tinker and doing oil changes how sad am I! Nice to have a bit of decent weather lately and light mornings and evenings makes it so much more enjoyable.
if you get a good set of tools for home undoing and a cheapish set for on the road stuff. after all the work it will need along the way, your get an idea what you will need .my bike set goes under my chink seat in a cheap poundland tool box and i get All my bike stuff from there or wilkos.my home stuff is machine mart .they do a nice bit of kit that's warranted for life..10mm is 10mm Allen keys that don't round off.anyway. i digress..nothing wrong in liking your bike.im an old git too..brought up on British stuff..your be glad you come.welcome.
Hi mate I forgot about machine mart, we have one not far from us think I'll go and have a look. I got myself a decent bahco socket set (I've got 3 different sets at work and really like them). £38 got me good range of sockets and good ratchet plus a fair selection of screw driver and Allen bits as well. The set I had before was o.k for the old push bike but not man enough for a scooter, the smaller sockets in it are ok but the larger ones are not so good especially for the oil sump which needs a bit more umph! Looking around for a torque wrench at the moment just wondering what sort of range I need or if its better to get more than one to cover everything. Got a decent set of screw drivers but Allen keys I do need. It's quite good fun getting into it. Not like modern cars those I leave well alone (and anyway I've got a 5 year warranty and a fair priced service package).
i carry enough to do every thing bar a crank change on mine.its Chinese.broke down the first day i got it.5hrs in Morrisons car park with scootzmad fixing it.allways have tools.torque wrenchs are best got in twos.the low range ones top end normally overlap the big ones lower range.get a good ones and their last yer.very good ones are about £30 but other budget stuff is good and go about £20 ish.
