Hi Everyone Just a quick message to say hello. I'm currently looking to buy my first scooter. Used to have a car but finances meant that we had to get down to one car in the household. Have been commuting to work by a mix of pedal power, the bus and if I'm feeling really lazy asking my wife nicely if I can borrow her car But I'm feeling the need for my own transport again. Since I have a short commute, want to keep costs down and am old enough to have moped entitlement on my driving licence a 50cc scooter seems the logical choice to keep costs down. Am looking for advice about a potential purchase but I'll start that thread off in the correct forum. Tim.
Hi mate, i would reccomend a piaggio zip, there the cheapest scooters about brand new and they are quite nippy for getting around town/ to work etc. However it depends on your size, if you are large and tall then you might want to go for a Gilera runner. Both are good bikes that you should consider. You can get a decent second hand zip a 10 plate for about 750. Good luck searching mate keep me informed
Hi Thanks for the welcome and the advice on the Piaggio Zip. I'm 5' 11" and so will need a bit of legroom I guess. I've posted more here http://www.scootershack.co.uk/threads/advice-on-buying-a-high-mileage-yamaha-neos-50cc.25228/ about a scooter I've seen (bit of an essay, sorry) but I'll have a look at Gilera Runners now. Thanks for the pointers. Tim.

Hi Everyone Just a quick update. I decided to do the CBT in the end. I realised that just because I didn't need to take the training (moped entitlement on driving licence) didn't mean I would be safe or enjoy the experience . So £80 for a day's taster session seemed like a sensible investment. Anyway I was given the option of doing the CBT on a scooter or a geared motorbike. Seeing as it was the same cost it seemed like I'd get more from the day if I "went geared". Anyway as a result of the CBT ride and a chat with a couple of the instructors I ended up hunting for a learner-legal motorbike. So I'm now the proud owner of a 2007 Suzuki GN125. One owner, garaged, 1500 miles from new, 12 months' MOT, £995. Had to travel a bit to fetch it (bit of a slog back after the train journey there) but worth the effort. So far I'm loving it. Despite the best efforts of the weather . Tim.
Welcome pal, sensible bloke by the sounds of you. Sounds like a decent scoot aswell. (pictures please)
