Hi there been reading through the posts lately as bought my Daughter a little Yamaha Neos 50 and we are doing it up as a little project together- gets her off the phone & nice to have a shared interest.
She is only 15 so we have a few months to go.

    Tidy scoot.
Keep it standard for now until she gets used to it. As long as it will do 40mph she won't get wrapped up in the traffic chaos and get pushed around by the car drivers.
    Confidence is the key.
    And welcome to you both

Little update- Daughter Completed CBT a couple of months ago & found it really easy, mainly down to having the Neos & me taking her to industrial estates at Wkends..
more confidence for her & peace of mind for me watching her skills progress.
Decided to remove restrictions- Exhuast ring & Variator spacer and this wee scoot will fly to 50mph easily.
Having trouble with Clutch engaging too soon & rear wheel always pulling, she has to turn it off to go backwards.
Would this be related to removing restrictions or coincidence ?
It was a new clutch but still old Contra spring
    Any ideas appreciated

Sounds like a clutch spring has broken and is letting one of the shoes fly out and always be giving drive

Could be a number of things with the wheel.
Rollers could be too heavy, heavy rollers are easily thrown out in the variator giving it early engagement.
As Rory says above, small spring on the clutch slipper could be broken allowing it to bite the bell.
Idle speed could be too high.
Contra spring could be weak with age and use, not fully pushing the moving half back.
Drive belt could be a little too thick or slightly too short in length
Little tricks to sort it out:
    1: Lighter rollers - 5gr
2: Shim washer to space the variator moving half
3: Stronger springs on the clutch slippers
    4: New contra spring

I would like to hear the idle speed to diagnose the problem, could be so simple as turning a screw.
But could be as complicated as a broken spring (in which case you need to inspect the whole trans for bits of spring)

Wait, the idle screw is turned nearly all the way in?

Yes I can turn it almost all way in after running for 5-10 minutes and it won’t keep back wheel still on stand now-
Off stand it wants to lurch forward, too much so for my daughter to hold without brakes on.
Only way I can get it to stall out is cover air intake with finger.
    Running Standard clean air filter

Yeah you need to turn the screw out, half a turn at a time til the wheel stops turning.
    Easy fix.

Think I’ve found the issue- throttle slide is sticking & very stiff in the carb
getting dark by time I found it so hopefully rectify tomorrow.
Any solutions to smooth it out ?

Could be the cable. Take it apart and see if the slide looks OK and feel the cable is smooth
