Can figure the mindset's and attitude's of a lot of drivers,as been in London for a while - just clocked onto the fact, that some of these drivers actually post vids on u-tube via dashcams, etc.,now this knowledge takes on a wholly different perspective/methinks. Might do a bit of research,if they really puzzle you.mk.
learn to drive. no seriously. it really helps to improve your riding because you know what most are thinking/can anticipate what they would do because youd probably do it too.
May seem ??? - i'm a visual person, the profile of a 4 wheel vehicle and the fact that I can't see the wheels and it f....s with my sense of spacial awareness.makes it intenable - An frankly can't stand cars, never have.mk.
before I passed driving test I thought I was a good rider. learning to drive and do advanced courses etc taught me to be a better biker and gave me a whole new respect for 4 wheels. it made me a safer rider. Then learning to drive a truck taught me a hell of a lot more and id like to think made me a even better driver and rider. At the end of the day until you've been in that drivers shoes you don't know how they will react. you may be a fairly competent rider but theres no harm in giving the 1 or 2 lessons in a car a try just to try and see things from a drivers point, seriously it will make you open your eyes a bit more.
Drive an articulated truck around London at peak times; until you have done it you wont understand what it takes to manouver it along the roads, and why the drivers take up the road position they do, which leaves gaps open for other not so bright drivers/riders/cyclists to dive into. Which inevitably causes problems, including death.
I do partially get your point on that one Steve.mostly do to triangulation issues piloting a not exactly totally mobile vehicle..,my issue is how I see me dealing with them in relation to my capabilities in regards to acceleration and predicting possibilities.... Lately feel/mind it's become an important issue at times - i'm seen in their mirrors,so may hang back off to the side to say hello and at least let them know i'm there. But tbh, they can make my day incredibly frustrating blocking roads, slowing down traffic, being the only vehicle present on my run(s),could go on+on+on. Lotta vehicles make me feel 'unfriendly' thought's during the day.
Work full-time for an automotive firm in North London, delivering car parts, encompassing roughly Barnet/Harrow/Acton/Fulham/Islington/Finchley areas and in between,on a Tgb 125 Delivery scooter,5-6 days a week/rotation.
London has been this way for many years now , arseholes everywhere , some people have a licence from abroad that is valid here (thanks EU) , some people have had one for many many moons and simply haven't kept up with the times moving on , some have a legit licence that they bought , and some are just arsehole drivers . I'd also love to say that some people also have a negative perception of delivery drivers . My personal hate is bus drivers and taxi drivers , taxi drivers spend the best part of 2 years or whatever whizing about on a scooter and yet somehow manage to block that whole experience the second they get a cab .
Have every other weekend to sleeeeep.,job pretty much takes up my whole life....if not working, everything else is centred around it - works for me/need to be kept occupied, get bored really easily. Away from civilization......probaly scare the s..t,out of the local wildlife..
Cab drivers are'nt really a problem for me,was a City of London courier for a no. of years - can predict them easy...... Bus'es/agreed !! are a ROYAL pain in the butt.how they interfere with the smooth flow of traffic - it's VAN's that put me on edge #1.their profile, having a box shape in front of me.screws with my line of sight. + #2.Their 'squirelly',have tendencies reminiscent of a bike rider, can be capable of getting up to anything - less predictable, and frankly i've seen a few that were absolutely f*****g PSYCHOS!!!!!. but in mentioning, the only time someone purposley set out to cause me injury, was another bike 'rider' - I unfortuneatly was in the wrong place/time and was targeted...............
