my headlights are quite dim and dont get much brighter when i rev it up. the battery reads about 12.6volts when the bikes off and goes up to around 14 volts when its turned on. any ideas what could be the problem?
has this always been like this, since you have owned the bike? if it has, check the wattage of the bulbs........ if it hasn't, put the multi-tester on the holder and read how many volts are reaching there, and check for dirty contacts on bulbholder and loose wiring. If the voltage is low, work backwards to the switchgear. The resting voltage of your battery is okay, not tip top I must add, but still sufficient, the charging voltage of 14volts is showing the alternator and regular appear to be okay. But a definite test is to set the bike at a fast idle, 2500 rpm-ish, take a reading and then switch the full beam on and observe the stability of the reading, it shouldn't vary by much at all, as the alternator spits out 18-22 volts to the rectifier/regulator.
its always been like it but i never really realised untill recently when i saw how bright other bikes were. ill look into it more tommorow when its light. :good:
i had this problem, GUNS helped alot, in the end it was the regulater and more of the problem it was the bulbs i was using so check them
well thats was mine were, and the guy in shop said change to 35/35, he said thats were all the power was going and getting wasted, im not 100% sure it will be the same as yours, is it a speedfight uve got aswell?
GUNS- would you no were i could get either, headlamp wiring loom or the connectors for the lights the bullet connectors?
http://shop.ebay.co.uk/?_from=R40&_...nkw=speedfight+loom&_sacat=See-All-Categories e-mail the speedfight breakers on e-bay, often they have parts they can't be bothered to advertize and photograph............ the heading is something like, engine bolt 99p, then when you open the page, it suggests that you contact them if you need any other part. and by the way 35/35 watt was the correct advice.
got same sort of problem but on my ice i cant remember if i had it before i broke the bulb and replaced it but when i hold down the flash button its alot brighter than when on normal high beam
