On my Dylan currently i have the standard 60/55w Halogen bulb, and its piss poor at night. SInce i like riding at night, i am wondering about upgrading it to something a bit stronger. The bulb spec is H4 P43T, and im looking for a xenon in a bigger wattage. My bike has nothing extra drawing power so im wondering what sort of factors will play into how high i can go. I dont know what the max wattage i can use is, and i know its going to generate more heat, if i up the wattage. HID is pointless at present for this bike. Will i need to drill holes in the headlight unit to allow air flow toi remove the excess heat? Would it be overkill going up to an offroad only 100w like this one 100w Bulb Kit @ eBay. If it produces a better night time experience, and also makes me more visible in the day i'd consider it a good thing. Alternatively do i stay with the 60/55w spec and go with something like these RING bulbs 60/55w Headlight Bulbs @ eBay. I have also looked for anything inbetween, but cant seem to find any for sale over here, although its very possible to order 85/80w xenons from the US. Any thoughts would be appreciated.
Bought a cheap set of H4 Xenon bulbs for less than fiver to test with. Went with the 60/55w version to start with. if it does the job then i will invest in a higher quality version of it. At the same time im very tempted to grab the 100w bulbs, just for testing purposes. Apparently the 100w bulbs give 6000k which is similar to an HID brightness. Which is exactly what im after. The ones ive ordered for testing are about 4500k. After the MOT next week i will trying messing with them, and see what difference they make.
only prob you're likely to encounter with 100W is rthe fact that they draw extra ampage with the wirings not thick enough to take...you basically risk melting wires... That said I run 2no higher wattage ones 80/90 if I remember right, on the exup without probs and its still only 12Volt system the same Oh, and the blue side light bulbs will fail the MOT.......thats from past experience
MOT isnt a problem per se, i have no probs swapping the bulbs prior to MOT. I usually strip the bike down prior to MOT just to clean it up and give it a lick of paint. Swapping bulbs at the same time wouldnt be to problematic. Maybe i should avoid the blue tinted bulbs and just go for an all out white xenon. That way i could probably stick with the current sidelight without hassle. Thanks for the advice.
