Hi, I have a direct bikes scooter and I have recently faced the problem of the headlights dipping. When I'm driving along with the headlights on dipped beam they will suddenly dip again to a really weak light, it happens exactly the same way if they are on full beam. Also the full beam indicator light in the speedo seems to stay half illuminated. If any one could help me with this problem it would be a great help.

Could be a faulty earth point, stator or reg/rec problem.
Does the battery go flat quickly at all?
Might want to grab a multimeter and test across the battery terminals for correct voltage with the engine running/lights on, to make sure you are getting the right output.
Should read about 13.6v with the bike running

The battery had been replaced back in July with a new one from a dealer and hasn't gone flat since.

    What is the "reg/rec"

The voltage across the two terminals read 12.54 and the voltage input into the regulator read 14.14v

If that battery reading of 12.54 is with the engine running, it's too low.
    It should be about 13.6v.
This would indicate a possible stator problem on the charging side, i.e. not giving enough charge back to the battery when the lights are on, but keeping enough of a charge to start the bike the next day.
Given that the battery is new and is presumed to be in good condition that is.

When you tested across the battery terminals, did you rev the bike and keep it at about 3000rpm or above or was it at idle, just ticking over?

    It was at idle

Re-do the battery test and raise the revs of the bike to 3000 - 4000 rpm, then note the reading.
It should be 13.6v or around there.
If thats ok then we need to start looking at the OUTPUT from the reg/rec
