Ok so I have my new stage 6 exhaust fitted, upgraded the clutch springs, lightened the rollers from 5g to 4.5g and upjetted from size 70 to size 74. My scoot still feels underpowered and wont go past 25mph. When I just had the size 70 jet in it would hit 45mph but it was woefully underpowered and would barely make it up a long hill. It also took quite a while to hit the speed, revving really high all the way up. Advice please??
if you put a bigger jet in and it goes slower then it means your running to rich , think about it if its revving too high thats normally a sign the rollers are too light
well even if I did think about I wouldbnt get anywhere. Im totally new to all this engine tuning malarky. What exactly does too rich mean?
right so when I turn the screw on the carb out, does that lessen the amount of fuel going in or increase it? I would assume turning it out increases it, but its best to be sure.
normally screwing it out will richen it. but that is only at idle is the main jet that determins fuel/air mix at full throttle. if it reels like its revving more than it is pulling try heavier if its revving excessive, ad have a few reads of minors carb tuning guide will help ALOT !
its not revving more than its pulling now. It gets to 25 then pretty much sits there. Its not revving high at all and I would say te revs are about mid range as its not really pulling as fast as it used to with the stock set up but its not revving really low either.
you say you fitted stronger clutch springs yeah ? maybe try abit lighter rollers, i dont really know minarelli motors. have a read of minor carb guide and dont confuse rollers with jetting.
yep I fitted stronger clutch springs....or at least I assume they are stronger. I put in green polini springs. They would be stronger that the stock springs right? I did order some 4g rollers too but pmtuning didnt send them in my last order or inform me they were out of stock and now i'm skint until I get paid on the 25th
yeah they will be stronger should be able to tell will rev higher before the bike starts to move. maybe have a few read round a few aerox threads to getsome roller weight ideas
I suspect rollers is the issue here. How can I tell I have got the jet size right? I have a 72, 76 and a 78 jet lying around. What would happen if I put those in?
run richer imp: if you gone from a 70 to 74 for a pipe should be ok. when you get it running something like, go on a run get a decent bit of road where you can get a decent bit of full throttle action then pull over whip plug out and see what colour is it. should be a chocolatly brown
r u sure that the pipe aint got restritors in it as this is wat me 70 done when i put my yashuni on i didnt no it came with restritors
Yeah my pipe has been derestricted, I made sure of that. So what would happen if I went back to stock springs? I upjetted and lightened the rollers also as well as the new pipe, so it wasnt only the clutch springs I messed with.
the springs went on fine. I got my dad to help me with that bit. He was a mechanic for 30 years so he'd make sure the springs went on right. I might have to try the old rollers just to see what happens. Cheers.
