I got a Nvidia 7900 geforce off a mate tonight. It is for pci-e which i have. I slot it in nicely, and it looks like it needs extra power according to some websites, so i plug the extra cable that come with it in. There is 2 plugs coming from wire an 3 possible places it could go. Some times when I plug it in, it sparks? So it looks like its shorting?? Also, once I got it in with no sparks etc, I turn it on an the screen stays black??? Any help appreciated. Thanks.
Which 7900 is it? GTX, GT, etc? When plugging in anything to a PC you should be earthed with an anti static wrist band and the power cable should be completely out. If your power supply is shit then you will need to use the converter wire that comes with it. You then plug the two molex connectors into two spare ones on your power supply and the 6 pin to the one on your card. And only then do you plug the power cable back in and turn it all on. Any sparks mean you have probably fucked it already though.
The power cable was completely out when I done it. I think. I was pissed as a fart tryna do it. Its a erm... 7900 GSOC. I got the converter wire with it, but there is 3 connectors coming out of my power supply. Although, 1 of them basically joins up to this weird black connector :wtf: Thanks for the help.
Spoke to my cousin as he knows alot about computers. He said that BFG have a 10 year warranty and are normally good with returns??
BFG are good for returns and whatnot as with pretty much all computer component makes. If you haven't connected it properly yet though then how are you supposed to know if you have fucked it.
Well basically there is 3 molex(?) connectors coming from my power unit and 2 coming out of the card.
Then plug two in? There's normally lots of spare molex connectors as they are used to power everything.
I have plugged two in. I also went into BIOS. And went from on board graphics to Pci-e Also done the same. My cousin reckons it fucked lolololololol. Got it for free. So gonna send it back to BFG.
