For when i turn 17. Around 5 months. I realise nothing big engine wise, insurance rape etc. Im definitely going into the bike route, but the car will serve me well until i have funds for something bigger than a 125cc and will give me opertunitys career wise also,as lets face it a driving licence is a 'bonus' in everyday life. I was thinking along the lines of 206,golf..all i can think of atm really, and i know people who own each and have given good reports. Ta for reading.

mk1/2/3 golf deffo... forget the peugots.. waste of time/money

first car should be a cheap car, everyone should have a mini but most people dont like rusty cars that break alot :D i love em

but ye, generally german cars are spot on as first cars, or japs.. fords are silly insurance thanks to boy racers and the rest of europe are pritty shit at building a decent car

if you want a BIG bike then dont forget that the license and test is changing in october. you'll need to be 21 so will only be able to have a 125 till your 21.

ye, tis hard work finding a good un... spent years casually lookin for mine.

buy a car cheap, buy a welder, get dirty, 6 months later when you pass your test your mini will be roadworthy :D best fun you can have in a 1L tho :D

You'll probably find it hard to find a decent cheap golf no matter what, french cars are all over the place, and are cheap! not for another reason! most of them are good. Just have a browse mate, citreon, peugeot, renault.

erm, take it from somone who's worked on cars since 3 odd... DONT go for a frenchj car.. theres cheap golfs everywhere. know of a black 3 door mk2 for 350 that aint shabby.. decent mialage. french cars are notoriously shit.

    WHAT MINOR SAID !!!

    ;)

i cant stand 106's, saxo's and corsa's in particular as theyre shitty common chav cars owned by the 17-19 bracket, simply dont bother if you want summat reliable and cool

mk3 golfs are ideal really as theyve mostly got modern features like pas modern interiors etc. mk2s are rising in price now for good ones and the nails arent worth fixing, mk1 is old skool cool but high maintanence as a cheap one will be a bit rotten :nerd:

i nearly cried when a local scrapyard sold a mk2 golf with 1 old man owner with full VW service history from new for £250 with full mot, no rot or anything :msn1:

you can guess i wanna euro stylee mk2 golf for me first car lol

    sam

old skool 4 door mk1 mk2 golf leave the engine standard, Gti Steel wheels, roof rack, rocking hula girl, go for the full tiki look! fuck it even woodgrain the bonnet and buy an ebay surfboard now that would be a cool first car. classic insurance anyone?

stick with bikes, thats my opinion anyway.

first car go for a ford fiesta/ vauxhall corsa / citreon saxo or simalar

dont go for jap, they last for ever BUT to get insured on one for a first car will be a pocket eater. buy a corsa C, run it for a year or two then get something you would like to keep for a few years.

the way fuel prices are going there wont be half as many people driving around in cars it will be motorbikes, push bikes or public transport, they reckon its going to ber hitting just under 2£ a ltr by the end of the year

you have NO idea what your on about m8... fiesta, cheap insurance? YE RIGHT corsa, EVEN WORSE

jap are CHEAP to insure, run forever but have absoloutly no charactre (probably a good thing) deffo stick with somthing jap german or british.

just out of curiosity, have you EVER owned a fiesta/saxo or corsa? i have, there ALL shit, break alot, constantly have you ripping black tape off and pulling out the multimeter..

i have been working on cars for more time than i have bikes, listen up or live with the consequences.

are you all dreamers? my sis had one for about 6 months... no parts, insurance is silly and as fun as it was the petrol was a nightmare (yes 9000rpm is fun but expensive)

now back on topic.. a SENSIBLE CHEAP FIRST CAR. that meansd somthing you can buy IF your not funded by mummy and daddy

    kids and cars, wake up

yup, fit it properly with clean hands.. there good cars but as a first car 100 quid plus on petrol and 200 a month insurance adds up

french cars are shopping trollys desighned to take old ladies/mums to tesco's
german british or jap, best engineering and most thought out cars there are, parts are GOOD quality and easily found aswell as cheap and there not bolted together with a million strange bolts/clips

not saying my opinion is omnipitant, just saying ive got more of a clue as ive owned/worked on or had prittymuch every car mentioned in the family. experience speaks for itself and when the hell was the last time you saw a mechanic in a peugot? they love fords beemers mercs and vw's as there BUILT WELL. its not preferance, its knowledge

everyones intitled to there own opinion as you say and i dont want to seem short, but people advising 1.8/2l cars as a first motor at 17 are foo.ls.. those that recomend french/italian cars are just plain ignorant and only recomend them as they like them.

fiesta would be good all but the insurance.. i know somone paying neer on 2g's for a fiesta with NO POINTS..
