Hi Will it be OK to ride without the plastic case that goes over the main Transmission metal case for the Drive Belt. The only thing I can see is air cooling intake and the holding of Air filter box, which is not required, has gone k and N filter I hope I can as the exposed metal casing will look great when polished.
Variator covers can be cut out a bit to aid airflow and cooling, but what they do is protect the variator - belt and clutch from dirt and water /grease from the road. only takes a small bit of dirt to ruin a clutch bell inner surface and cause overheating problems on the clutch shoes, or a small bit of road grease/water and you start to get clutch slip problems, the variator if that gets dirt on it you start to cause early pre wear on the fixed half face plate and the variators face plate, this in turn starts to destroy belts super quick. a wet belt can cause slipping problems and hence over rev without going anywhere and excessive wear and the need to be replacing a lot more. fancy belt covers will have some areas on show but a lot of that area covered to help with these problems to stop dirt and water/road grease and to aid in cooling of the clutch bell when its engaged.
Many thanks. Great advice. Case is going back on. I ride every day, so all that you say makes so much sense. Thanks again
your welcome buddy , but you can still spangle it up with some paint and a clear coat , then a good buff polish to bring a sweet shine being plastic go for a plastic primer and acrylic base colour
Its absolutely fine to not have that plastic cover on as the metal one will still be there to protect it afterwards, the only reason piaggio shipped them covers with gileras and italjet etc was to remove the piaggio branding , the piaggio typhoon is based on the same engine and does not come with those covers. obviously dont take off this metal casing as the transmission probabaly would not be happy then, there will also be that plastic intake cover to get and if its a rolling nut there will be a second plastic cover at the clutch nut, other than that you shouldnt have a problem.
That looks awesome. Is that a SP 180 2000 to 2006 ? as does not look any thing like me configuration.
its a non rolling nut air cooled 125 in a piaggio typhoon, the bottom end and casings are the same for all the piaggio 2 stroke automatics above 125(including gilera italjet aprillia models etc), the only difference was the change from non rolling nut to rolling nut. this is what rolling nut wil look like, can be run like this but better to get the plastic covers for the rolling nut and the air intake like i mentioned in my last post.
