On the way to work today when I noticed the battery light on the panel was on, I pulled over for fuel and when I came to start it my electric start would not work ? I had to kick start the bike to get it to start, but the battery light is still on. I had no issues prior to going work, started fine on electric start. What could this be guys . Pls help Thanks Carl
regulator/rectifer or the charge coil may have blown.is the light on with the battery removed?if you've got a multi meter, put it on the battery terminals without the battery on and check youve got 13 odd volts DC.if you get a dodgy reading ..try it on AC.if you get a reading on AC then your rectifier is shot.no voltage..coil gone.
dunno bout the charge coil as it could be available only as a complete coil stator pack.regulator rectifier ain't generally expensive.£20 or so max..its only an unplug and replace job.sombody on here could tell you where to find it but it ain't a big spanner job.charge coil could be a pain though..opposite side from the variator behind the fan cover as far as I know(generally).check all the wires for loose ones first..and the fuse...some of these bikes can throw up some funny faults that don't follow logic.
Ok mate thanks for the info I'll update on it tomorrow hopefully it's the fuse, as I've also been told that, ha pls be the fuse lol
charge the battery over night if you can,and try starter tomorrow.could even be a waff battery.hard to tell till you've tried the simple stuff first.hope it is the fuse or battery.simple fix.
Shouldn't really charge a scooter battery overnight, max 3 hours, starts to burn the plates if its on for too long.
ive always had chargers that shut down automatically....but your right Steve..best to be Safe than sorry if your not sure.them gel batteries make a mess if they ain't done on a slow charge too.
