    Hi there,
I have been working on my FXR 180 on and off now for the best part of 3 years. I bought it as a box of bits and I finally decided that the time has come to get the darn thing on the road. I have done quite a lot over the past week and I was making good progress to the point where I thought I could have it started this weekend.

However, when i tried to open the coolant bleed screw on the thermostat housing it was proving less than willing to budge. The first thing that happened with my open ended spanner was to round the flats off. Anyway, it all went down hill from there on and the thermostat housing finally fell apart.

As you can see its a bit of a mess. I had to take the engine out to get to the cross head screws holding the housing on once the bleed aperture shattered. Then i had to Dremmel the cross heads so that I could get a flat edge on my impact driver because the first attempt rounded the cross section. Not a happy bunny at the time but its off now as you can see and the scoot is just in need of a replacement.

I have looked on ebay and can only find one housing. Its second hand, £25 and about as shitty a condition as the one that was on my scooter. Now I am not stupid and wouldn't entertain spending that much on something that could fail the way mine had (once bitten, twice shy and all that). Could anybody suggest a place i could get a new one from? I have seen this one on Pedparts but not 100% sure it will fit my bike.

    Any feedback much appreciated.

I think that thermostat housing is found on the 125/180 2t runners, early aluminium skull-caps. Just replace it with a new plastic cap, not expensive to buy new!

    Hi folks,
Thanks for the reply's. I called the local scooter center who said they had one in stock. Was a bit shocked as i don't seem to be able to find one anywhere else on the internet. However, Pedparts did say that they do not stock the item and the link i posted above was indeed for a 50cc scooter but they can get hold of the right one for me. I hope to get over to fetch the part this afternoon but will not be 100% sure its the right one till i see it.

Filled up with fuel and primed the system last night in anticipation of getting it sorted over the next couple of days assuming the parts correct.
