Hi there, Already touched on this issue in my project thread, but wanted to pop it here as well. I have a problem with my FXR where whenever I connect the fan it starts working. I have established that this sensor pictured below is the fan switch. Now the scooter was bought as a project and although I have very recently had it running, I cannot guarantee that some of the components are not faulty. I am thinking that this fan switch is the most likely culprit. Has anybody else had this problem?
Take a look at where the needle is on the dashboard temp gauge, assuming its an analogue dash, not digital. If its over three quarters of the way up then it could trigger the fan switch to cut in. Or you could disconnect the temp sender unit in the head, keep the connection away from anything that could earth it, then plug the fan in and see if it comes on. If the fan comes on this way, with the sender unit disconnected, then the fan switch is probably faulty. If it stays off, then the sender unit in the head is faulty. I'm presuming that you have already bled the water system to eliminate any air locks in the head.
Steve, The issue it's kind of the other way round really. The temp guage reads zero and the fan works as soon as connected oblivious to weather the soout is hot or stone cold.
Ok, then if the temp gauge goes up as normal when running, would indicate a faulty fan switch. Only one way to rule out anything like this, replace both temp sender in the head and the fan switch, if problem persists, wiring fault, somewhere in the temp circuit, earthing somewhere.
