Gilera Runner 2011 50 with 70s won't start

Hi,
Bought a gilera runner 50cc 2t with a 70s kit yesterday, quite old and dirty but kicked first time (battery dead) when we viewed and got back home.

This morning I started ped first time again got to the end of my driveway and it cut out. Hasn't started since. Checked coolant and petrol. Knew to peds but think the carb may need a clean and think I should check spark plug.

When kicking it gets going and smokes out exhaust but just doesn't start completely.
Any help would be great.

 

Could be any number ofthings start with a carb clean and new plug
