    HI,

I have a gilera runner 125sp (2000). I haven't used it since it overheated a few years back, i believe this was caused by the seal exhaust/water jacket? Whatever it was, it melted the plastic head cover.

I should be moving closer to work, and fancy getting it back on the road. As there's a bit of a hill, i'm thinking of making it a 172. Any ideas on what bits i need, and the best place to source?

    Thanks,
    Dom

Thanks for the link. I'm only intending to use this to go to work on so plug and play reliability is key - i have something for the weekend i can break ;-), so i believe this would suffice.

    Malossi 172cc kit
Dell'Orto 25mm Carb (best match for the standard reed window anyway although gains and losses are present with any other carb fitted)
    Gear up kit
    Aftermarket Carbon Reeds
    Runner 125 standard exhaust

In relation to the carb, is this standard or after-market?
Gear-up kit, is this just different rollers?

Gear up kit is phyiscally a bigger gear you will have to get pressed, but is recommended to prolong engine life and you want to go faster than 70.

Yes they have rollers but their's still gears...

if it overheated and possibly let water into the engine i think you should look at whether the crank and bearings are any good first

Strip her down and re-build it mate. A 10 year old 2 stroke engine will need it at some point, as monty said the bottom end may want attention if water had got in there.
