I am currently looking to drop a big bore into my California 2009 Aprilia Sr50r ditech. I have been eyeballing the 94cc kits as I am looking to build a beast. On my journey to project I have ran into a guy who says to me why don't you just get a engine from the UK and drop in in your scoot. He proceeds to tell me that they make a 125cc that will work with my application with some modding and that it can be bumped to a 172cc. So me being the guy who can never leave anything stock I am now on a quest for knowledge. I'm seeing a few different motors out there in your neck of the woods and am going to buy something pretty soon. What is the question? I would like to stay disc brake in the rear and with a piaggio liquid cooled motor. Can you tell me what I'm looking for and where to look to pick up a motor like it complete? Are the bigger motors (172) just a modded 125cc? Also what is rolling vs the not rolling nut? Looking to get away from fuel injection and carb my scoot. This should meet my needs for the power I'm looking for. Thanks in advance for the info
Get rid of the ditech aprilia and buy a runner125, the aprilia wiring is too different. You would need to buy a 125 sr aprilia loom then a 125 runner engine. It's not cost effective.
I wish that was an option but California is very strict on the scooters brought over . Much easier to hide an engine swap and fiddle with the wiring than to sneak the whole bike by the cops. Still looking for info
u will need a gilera runner 125 engine, yes 172 its just the kit that goes on 125 engine same like a 70 kit for 50cc, you will also need a loom, all the bits to it and cdi, coil. rolling nut is just the latest engine type out there which is disc and its stronger so you would want that one preferably, just standard 125 engine with 172 kit will be probably same power as 94cc kit but much more reliable and then if you spend some more money you can reach high figures in bhp also if u got alot of money check out the guy called 'shiny red tuning' on facebook or on hes website, hes life is based on modifying 125 2t engines he will probably have one for you if you will want to mod it
Thanks for that info. Just what I was looking for. I shot Shiny Red Tuning and email to see what he has to offer. A reliable screamer with tons of torque is what Im after. Seems like it fits the bill. "And you will need a silent block and cradle to mount the 125 engine properly!" What is a silent block? Are we just talking engine mount or something else? If thats what your talking about I am aware that this is going to be a full custom setup. Plenty of projects under my belt to easily take this on ( should have been divorced along time ago with all the toys)
The silent block is a vibration damper, the 125 piaggio motors are very lumpy at tickover and jump up/down quite a lot. You will need the suspension cradle as well, it's not complicated to fit into your frame. People do fit (read bodge) engines in all the time but it's crap, they vibrate and are not nice to ride. The cradle is fitted to the Italjet dragster/ Gilera runner/ piaggio typhoon 125/180 scooters. If you intend to do this conversion I'd be happy to help with measurement/photos of the cradle/silent block setup.
