im trying to work out whats wrong with my friends gilera dna 50 when hes out sometimes the temp gauge will all of a suddon hit the top of the temp gauge and start flashing. iv changed the coolant, bled the coolant. im guessing its not the thermostat as when the engine is warm you can see the coolant flowing in the resoviour and when its cold you cant. any help is appreciated
Have you checked the tempreture sensor on the to of the cylinder? i brought a nrg power a few months back that had a leaky water pump seal and the head gasket was gone but the wire for the temp sensor was not on and it was always on full and flashing because the wire was not attached, so i expect the connector or wire on you mate must be lose hence why only somtimes it goes full and flashes next time the bike is on and the temp working try unplugging the wire i expect it will go to full and flash
i should of explain it more clearly lol. it does actuallt over heat hes missing the original coolant tank cap so we made a bodge from a coolant bottle ductape and cable ties lol and the pressure in side the bottle blows that off and makes steam go every where making everything get coolant on it -_- also if it overheats it can be left for about 10mins turnt off and all of a sudden from near the radiator a small puddle of coolant will apear but if it doesnt overheat it wont :/
Ok next time run the bike with the bodged cap carefully take it of when warm to release the pressure then whilst stil running put the cap on for around 20- 30 seconds if it builds alot of presure in that time the head gasket is gone mine has just started doing this as i was unaware my spark plug was hanging out the last time i ragged the ped causing the head gasket to go
