Gilera DNA 50 Head Lamp Dim Brights Query

Hi,
Finally got the bike on the with the good weather. Have not ridden it since purchase over a year ago. I noticed the headlights and would like slightly differently to my other motorcycle. When I turn them on only the left bulb is on. When I turn on the brights the left goes off and the right bulb comes on. When I flick the overtake (do not know what I would be overtaking with a restricted 50cc) the left glows way brighter until I let it go as I think it should do.

Should the bulbs switch over like they do between dim and brights? If not any advice on correcting?
