was riding at about 60mph and the bike cut out, took the engine case off and the belt had snapped into peices. the bike still reved but the rear wheel didnt go round. (not sure if the gears are fucked) i changed the belt and put the engine case back on and now when i start the bike it makes a kinda grinding noise/loud clicky crunchy sound and then cuts out.

does anyone know what the problem could be? would the gears be fucked? :banghead:

does it make the strange noise at idle with the bike stationary ?

yes, at first i thought the starter cog was out of place and getting jammed in the pulley but ive took the engine case off numerous times and checked everything out. then when i put it on stand and start it up it cuts out asap. and makes a crunching noise. try to rev it a bit and cuts out straight away. i thought it was the gears fucked but if it was then you wouldnt be able to push the bike i swear? or am i wrong? any other solutions?

if it makes the crunching noise on idle, without the bike moving, then i would say its not the gears...

sounds as if a spacer or washer has been put back wrong on the variator, and its rubbing on something...

take the tranny case off and check everywhere with a fine tooth comb for signs of any rubbing anywhere on the tranny case or variator....may be worth checking the clutch drum/clutch assembly too :)
