Gilera 172 sp Project!!!! rider4life's UPDATED!!!

some of you may know im building a gilera runner 172 project. anyway thought i might aswell show the forum the progress so far!!.

i bought the bike about 2 years ago for £200 from ebay. when i got it the bike had seen better days. needed every panel. tyres was bald. wheels were corroded. forks were naff. electrics were shittt. only good thing was the engine which ran sweet. after about 2 months of it sitting there i stripped it down to the bare frame. and got started on the project.

first i sanded down the frame and gave it a bare metal respray. i got the wheels sandblasted and powdercoated orange and fitted brand new pirelli sl26 tyres. got the engine casing and fork legs polished professionally(cheers steve). got my clutch drum chromed 4 free!!

Got brand new panels which are currently in spraying getting done pearl white havent decided on decals yet, my seat is in recovering getting done black leather with white stitching. should be done soon.

extras include malossi rear shock, l.e.d lights. halogen headlight bulbs (2 brighttt), chrome side stand, custom made numberplate, metal vents and footplates, quick throttle, custom made wheelie bar and exhuast bracket ( thanks shinyred great work!! ) ,custom made flywheel cover .

engine is currently waiting to be built. spec will be malossi 172 kit, pm tuning gold billet head and skull cap, malossi straight manifold, phbl 25mm carb , pm tuning filter, malossi variator, ntn main bearings, new waterpump, malossi x belt, standard clutch with green springs, 180 gearing, nk sprint pipe with pm tuning end can,lightened flywheel, havent decided on crank yet ( any help would be appreciated). casings are back from sandblasting freshly sandblasted.

ive proberly missed loads but that all that i can think of right now!! heres pics!!! any comments and ideas are welcome!!

yeh that picture lets the wheels down badly. there actually bight orange near illuminus.

 

looks shit hot so far..the tranny case and fork legs looks the tits.. how much did you pay for the pipe ive been after one for a while but they always go for stupid money..

yeah the wheels lok need abit of a clean though. the forks look the bizz :drool:

i payed £170 for the pipe :msn1: . but its mint like new.

 

i'd happily pay that for an nk sprint...everytime i see one on ebay they get over 200 quid and ive never got the cash at the time so i end up with a pm pipe...

yep orange wheels and pearl white panels, was going for a rizla rep but they seem 2 popular.

 

are you sure thats an nk sprint pipe with pmtuning endcan? looks the otherway round to me

engine has no gearbox or crank lol. just rested the parts on for picture.

welllllll what can i say, u and me both week off work 1 gielra to build i call that pimms a cock, anyway gonna twist his arm get it done this week, all stuff is good to go, and for clarification (big word) the wheels loooook much better in person seen em myself the pic dont do em jsutice they look shit, but shit hot in person lol watchthis spaceee!!!!!!!!

 

am i right in saying tho that there alot stronger then the pm59..and your more likely to get more miles out of it..

panels should be back in 2 weeks. the guy has alot of jobs on so he said about 2 weeks.

 

i was goner do pearl white with red rims to match my pearl white roof or all black with gold rims etc cant wait to see what the panels come out like
