Hey people, just need to ask a few q's so just make a general thread.

My bike has been struggling to start in the cold (10 kicks or so) and plug etc is ok, and idle was turned up, any other things to do?

Also, when i pull away off the line the bike moves, but very slowly for about 3-5 meters then suddenly works, thinking carb? but too lean or too rich? and at top end it smokes a lot, is this normal or carb again?

I was also going to get some new clutch springs, then I came across this: http://beedspeed.com/automatic-clutch-1 ... 0f497149c3 would it be sufficient, as its cheap  but its a new clutch, as mines proberly nackered, and has springs on it already ;)

Also going to get some contra springs to try.

So, new clutch and contra springs, rollers already done.

Then soon a pipe? leovince tt proberly!

    Any advice/help appreciated

first thing that sprung to mind was the crank seals.

but i think the smoke could be water vapour, check your fluid level and make sure the bike has anti-freeze in it, i would check your head gasket too.

you could try warming it up before you ride it too, this gives the motor chance to work as it should and for the piston and the barrel to heat evenly.

sorry, should have gave more info. smokes flat out at high speed from exhaust, i always warm it up as i know this is important. and its air cooled :p

2 strokes are notorious for being hard to start in the cold weather...

also your pulling away problem could be incorrectly adjusted idle mixture...which could also contribute to difficult starting!!

But remember the idle mix effects the 1st quarter of throttle movement..
i.e the flow of fuel through the pilot jet..

hold at slight throttle.. if the revs drop its rich if it rises its lean. ajust accordingly.

hold it revving at 2000 ish k.. so twist it a little an hold it there.
the throttle should control engine speed not power.

yes you will need to upjet approxomately 5 percent from standard jet size, for the exhaust. rollers should be fine but some people choose to lighten them slightly when fitting an exhaust.

next time please use the search, or at the very least start your own topic.

    upjet.

trust me its not worth the hassle if u dont upjet.

For the sake of a couple of quid for a jet, you may as well do it,

It's a five minute job and your ped will run properly.

    Anyway, back on topic.

Ill have a tinker with the idle and the air mix screw later.

What do people think of that clutch? And I think my contra spring is no good, as if i revv it with the tranny casing off, it returns slowly to the lowest gear, and it dies on hills.

just had a look at the plug. it was quite wet and pretty brown, like theres too much oil. is there a way of adjusting the oil pump ?

a pipe changes the powerband an fuel usage. the carb controls fuel so you need to ajust it for the pipe. the transmission sets the working rpm for an engine so you need to change those. a pipe moves the power higher in the revs so theres less bottom end power. if you dont change the rollers your stuck at stock rpm so the engine performs worse till you hit the top of the variator and your locked in final drive.. at this point the revs go up with the speed and it revs out properly. still stock rollers are way to heavy for any pipe
