My primary gear was savagely raped somehow.. so I am sticking my spare set in there for now, for a gear up kit how do I know what numbers like amount of teeth to get? i'm running a stage 6 streetrace 70cc bore, got polini full mass cranks, polini variator, polini belt, standard clutch, standard gears at the moment, oh and 21mm carb, and uprated reeds don't know what they are though, if that helps at all on how to decide gearing?

Well a primary gear up kit gives you a better top end and a secondary gear up kit gives you better acceleration, as for the amount of teeth just go on to adrenaline pedstop, click your make, model and year then you can browse and buy :)

Stupid question but what would happen if you fitted both together?

Would they just cancel out the effects of each other - i.e no better than standard?

What the hell sort of complete bollox is that. Terrible advice.

There are lots and lots of topics about gears and working out the ratios. In lots of detail as well so it's not worth me repeating.

Simple terms however is that both the primary and secondary combine to make the gearing. For your setup you want a smallish increase and it's normally better to go for a primary gear up as now days most come prepressed so it's very easy to fit.
