hi, do you need a 70 kit to have a gear up kit and if so why??
    Cheers

no, you need a fair bit of power to make a gear up kit worthwile though because the engine can't pull a taller gear in it's standard form, you want to be looking at 8+ bhp before a gear up really becomes usable, stock 50 is usually about 4-5 bhp.

Would a speedy 2 70cc need a gearup kit? Would it be worth it?

depends on the spec, just a 70 kit, the gear up would be pointless.

wouldn't a gear up kit improve the top speed but make the accel more shite?

in theory yes, but the engine won't be able to pull the extra gearing (try setting off in 5th in a car).

there are more factors than just a slope between accel and top speed, wind resistance and friction play a large part in negative effects on a scooter (anyone any good at physics will know that the 2 forces (drive and resistance) are equal when the scooter is pulling a steady speed (flat out) and in adding a gear up, you are only making that driving force greater if the engine is capable of giving more than the standard gearing allows.

NO! a gear up kit wouldn't make your accel be shite but will add bout 9 mph on top end. i have a malossi 1 n it made my bike rapid on top end n accel was same. if anything would make accel better

no it wont, it will make accel drop slightly.
to get more there must be more turns of the secondary from less turns of the primary, so its harder to pull

strip a gearbox out and turn the gear shaft the clutch sits on, it will be easy to spin but the shaft the wheel sits on will only spin a tiny amount, now try spinning the shaft the wheel sits on, it will be hard to spin but the clutch shaft will spin loads.

derffo drop acceleration..... my runner 172 with 25m carb and varo and other stuff with a gear up kit still made exceleration drop abit...added an extra 12mph and crused at better speeds but i personaly will never get a gear up kit again....i use my car for top speed... my typh is for exceleration now....
