Can i ask does anyone know if you can get primary and secondary gear up kits for a non rolling nut engine?..someone gave me the impression you can't ...only for the rolling nut..is this true??
Dont listen to them!.. They are pulling your leg!.. Yes you can but you only need a secondary gear up kit as primary and secondary is too much for the bike to move lol.. I had a secondary on my runner 172.. check ebay there £70-80 on there
Now when Pete at tdr did my work and then did a gearbox ratio check he clocked it at ratio of 6.5 to 1... which is the same has his drag bike. .so he reckons it must have both in it??..Now my bike runs ok and pulls ok to 50(not super fast but resonable) but it does feel like it will go on to a ton plus with a hill and a bit of wind...Tonight i took a look at the clutch and did my own ratio check ie marked the clutch bell and watched how many turns it did to one revolution of the back wheel and yes it was 6.5 !! A standard 180 runner runs at 7.88 to 1....Might see if i can fit some lighter rollers as i'm running 13.5's at mo...we can hope or it's a gearbox strip to see whats going on..
I stripped the gearbox today to have a look at the setup as the scoot seems really tall geared!! Now from what i can see as i've never had a auto box apart and please correct me if i'm wrong !! 1 and 2 are the primary 3 and 4 are the secondary What ive found is that gear no 2 has a piaggio stamp on it and i persume this is standard..so ineffect a standard primary ?? As regard to teeth... gear 1 has 13 teeth gear 2 has 30 teeth gear 3 has 14 teeth and gear 4 has 41 teeth..... Can someone tell me what set-up i have here as i have been told it may be a hexagon engine/gearbox... any advice would be appreciated.. :beg:
Well for one malossi don't make a primary gear up. Polini do so if it was an aftermarket one it would be marked. What gears you have pointed out are right. 1 and 2 are the primary gearup and 3 and 4 are the secondary. 3 and 4 are also straight cut so this sounds right as malossi gears are straight. 14/41 is totally wrong though. The gear ups they sell are either 14/43 or 15/41 so maybe you have got half and half from two different kits...? Could explain the weird goings on. I'm not sure of the stock numbers so I couldn't tell you what the primary is out of. If it's a 180 or not.
Thanks Terro...but do you know if 13/30 for the primary is a standard setup or modified as i cant seem to find any info on the net to the standard gear ratios for engines...only what the gear up kits would be !!
Malossi do make primary gear up's..but are you saying they don't do them for my engine?? cos i'm now trying to work out what my engines from...sr, typh,hexagon...How can i tell exactly what my engines from ???
the only way u will find out what your engine is from r the engine numbers, but all engines r about same anyway, all 125 primaries are 12/32 180 primaries are 13/31 polini primaries are 14/29 piaggio 125/180 secondary gears are 12/42 malossi/polini secondary gears 15/41. i dont think malossi do primarie gera up kits for this type of engine, so hexagon sr,tyhpoon, etc, 125 will all b the same gears, u will not get a primarie gear up kit for for your engine as its not the rolling nut type, all u have in your engine is a secondary gear up kit, all the above is a quote,so it may not b right,
Hi Dave, lost me now as nothing that you've listed agrees with what ian's got in his engine, there are 2 different size 41 teeth secondary gears we found out earlier 41/14 and 41/12 the plot thickens! What we've come up with is that i've got a the large 41/12 that came out of me typhoon so we are going to fit that instead of the smaller 41/14 (the 41 tooth gear have different OD'S) if that makes any sense. :beg: Thanks for the post on me LD and thanks for the advise you've given me .
Thanks Dave but as dean says my primary are 13/30 with piaggio stamps on gears ???...so it it is still confusing :banghead: ...plus engine numbers gone/not readable....some bleeders rubbed it off  Any ways you on any thing interesting at the mo??
Piaggio seem to do a 125 gear that is 12/30 but it's gear 2 and 3 in your pictures. http://www.scooter-center.com/scowe...IO:A_PIAGGIO_TPH125&category2=CAT:CAT_ANTRIEB So according to all the information you have been given then your gearbox is... gear 1 has 13 teeth = piaggio 180 input shaft gear 2 has 30 teeth = piaggio 125 gear gear 3 has 14 teeth = Malossi out of one secondary gear up.. 14/43 gear 4 has 41 teeth = Malossi out of a different secondary gear up... 15/41 Here are links to each of the malossi secondary gear up kits. http://www.scooter-center.com/scowe...GILERA_RUNNER180FXR&category2=CAT:CAT_ANTRIEB http://www.scooter-center.com/scowe...GILERA_RUNNER180FXR&category2=CAT:CAT_ANTRIEB A bit of side information is that UK part sellers only sell the 15/41 malossi gear up for some unknown reason? And just for good luck a link to a useful post about gears from TDR! http://www.scootershack.co.uk/viewtopic.php?f=23&t=13065
