I have recently Bought a Gilera Runner 200 VXR 2003 REG in Mint Condition. I have also bought a BRAND NEW FRAME and no it's Not Stolen before you say it probably is! It is a Old Shape Frame for a VX125 and has not even had the Number's stamped on the frame, the Plate is not even bent back and has the Starting Star and the letters ZAPM Stamped after, the rest is Blank. What I'm planning to do is Take Apart the 200 VXR and Bolt it onto the VX 125 Frame along with new Bearings and Engine Mounts where needed, Which enables me to Sell the Scooter on as a Real Clean Example of a Gilera Runner VX 125 Built in a Brand New Frame with a 200CC Engine. I have a VX125 Engine with Legal Numbers Sitting there so was thinking of using this if they ask for engine numbers or require me to take the bike for a test ( 125cc for the Power Test or W.E they do when it comes home the 200cc will go in! ). I cannot get one bit of sense from the DVLA or Directgov websites (AS PER USUAL!) and was wondering if anyone here knows the process which has to take place for me to receive a Full V5 Logbook and Not a GAY Q Plate if it can be avoided!. All Cost's and Process's/Test's from start to finish would be really handy as I'm hoping to get it built ASAP for the Spring to sell on.. Any Help would be Much Appreciated Guy's (and Maybe Girls!) Cheers, Jay.
im not sure about scoots, but i know when legalising mx bikes you need to get an mot, certificate of age, send off for a v5, fill it in and send off with some money and the age certificate, they send you the registration documents that you get a plate for and a tax disc. oh and i think you need temporary insurance through the frame numbers when registering it. i dont know how much of this translates over to scoots though.
Not sure an individual can legally replace a frame otherwise it'd be classed as a ringer where its possible to put all stolen items on a clean title frame and off you go. I'm aware that dealers can do it due to having to repair damaged frames. Its a bit like a car dealer having to reshell a write off I've not looked ito this in any depth due to not needing such a thing but the above seems to be what I remember from "somewhere". If an individual needs to register a new frame or a one-off they'll allocate a Q plate to show the bikes origins. Thats why insurance for them is so high coz they could in theory contain iffy parts from places unknown or not constructed to ISO standards etc...giving a higher risk
it would be easier to cut a plate out of the old frame containing the numbers, then weld it on to the new frame. or get them re-stamped onto the new frame
i didnt think you could get q plates anymore, i thoght they stopped that when the plates changed to the new style back in 2000 and something or other.
Sounds like more aggro than its worth tbh!, thanks for your replys, Think I will stick the frame up on here for sale as its nice clean and straight with no rust being brand new
