Ok so this may seem like a dumb question but I am asking anyway! I bought a second, very rough SR125 as a project bike almost a year ago. It has sat pretty much untouched for most of this time until recently when a burst of enthusiasm saw me strip it down. Upon taking the bodywork off I noticed that the frame plate has been cut in half. You can still make out the vin but I was wondering why this would have been cut in the first place. I have spoken to the previous owner who assures me it has never been scrapped and I do trust him. Anyone seen or heard of anything like this before? Cheers, Jon.
Ive only seen that on a cut and shut frame. Has the frame got any sign of repainting/welding? Its a possibility its been in a accident and frame somehow got bent, cut another wrecked frame and welded the two good sections together... yes ive seen it! do you have the documents for it? do they match up?
Don't have the documents, have the reg plate and going to apply for the V5 from dvla. No signs of welding, all looks as normal. I know it has been dropped as there are some crankcase mounts that have snapped but all else seems fine.
spend £3 on your phone or computer and do a check on it before you send off for the papers. It'll show you if its been registered as a write off in the past
Yeah good call. All I did was type the reg into an insurance database to see if the plate was recognised. There could be an Aprilia yard sale soon!
if its just a write off, depending on the category it may be repairable and just needing a MOT to get it OTR. if its well dodgy... strip it... cut the frame up... build onto another frame
Quick update, total car check for £1.89 well worth it. Clean bill of health, never any problems so the build can start. On the subject of frame number cutting, I notice there was an SR125 frame for sale with number plate that also had its plate cut. The seller had no idea why either. Weird.
