Just been changing my main jet again and hit a problem. I usually drain off the excess fuel then remove the main jet with no fuel loss regardless off float position. Now the bikes over fuelling and when I came to change the jet the fuel wouldn't stop flowing out unless I push the float up by hand. Would I be right in thinking I need to replace the needle valve that fits with the float? I've cleaned everything out and this is the only thing I can think of ?
The float has a flap that hits the plunger. That gap can be adjusted. You may be lucky and might be able to just adjust the gap. You can find the specs on Google. I just bent mine a tiny amount by guestimation, and I did not have to replace the plunger.
On mine it is metal, brass colored. you can find a photo online. Check out youtube videos and search for Carb adjustment GY6.
This post indicates some are plastic and not adjustable, and some are metal. http://scootdawg.proboards.com/thread/3953/gy6-150cc-carb-float-adjustment The forum is closed, now read only, but every GY6 question has been asked and answered on Scootdawg.
Just spoke with local scooter shop to get the part and there suggesting it's not the needle valve as it works when it's pushed up by hand. He mentioned it could be fuel tap issues. Has the fact I've blocked some holes in the air box affected this?
I still have a vacuum operated petcock, but only because it is directly mounted to the tank. I don't trust any vacuum operated valve to last for long. I am going on 6 years on Chinese rubber parts. How could this be bad? I expect to be working on this soon.
Oh geez I do not know. I do know my buddy replaced his petcock because the scoot was flooding overnight, not while running. I am thinking of putting an inline cut off just above the fuel filter to make it easier to change, and to be able to be sure the gas stays in the tank when I am not riding it.
Thanks dude. That's what's happening to mine if I don't nip the pipe and it makes it run crappy as well.
