thought maybe this would be a good one to write up here, heres how to do the first service on a 2 stroke scoot:
first things first, have a little ride on it, check the brakes, the lights, all the instruments (speedo or whatever) and check that nothing is sticking (ei the brake levers or throttle). check side stand switch and such too.
then get it up on the centrestand, check your front brakepads. check your tyres for air pressure and tread depth.
whip out the drain plug and drain your transmission oil, most scoots take about 100ml of 10w40 MTX, some use the thicker oil (mostly chinese bikes and old derbis) then get your chain lube out. theres lots to lubricate. the centre stand pivot, the kickstart, back brake lever and arm, front brake lever, ignition switch, seat lock plus any other moving part. next we check the belt, whip the casing off and check the belt for excessive wear or cracks, on models where fitted, check the oil pump cable (piaggios and derbis) and thats it. first service
in reality it takes about ten mins, but thats after you have done over 40 in a month.
