Ok so today was the first day out on one of my scoots, its a Kymco Yup 50 2005 model.

top speed on the flat was just over 40 (on the speedo) and slight downhill 45 after a bit and down a big hill i got over 50 :D but didn't want to gun it because i didn't want to smash the engine lol

anyhow, the bike went pretty well but seemed to bog a bit lower down the really pull away, just like a motocross bike except it had no low down power, it sort of went, brrrrrrr rrrr rrr rr r waa waaaaaaaaaap, especially at lights etc and going up hills it would sort of slow down then almost drop a gear and pick up again, i really like the bike and i think this could just be a dodgy plug as it a BR6HSA and on the bay when i stuck in yup 50 plug most of them showed BR8's and the plug had like a tan colour residue on it which i know means its not burning all the oil, and i looked in the hole and saw the piston was like black! which im guessing means its not burning lean enough or the plug isn't hot enough. I've reaad that a bad plug will leave big builups, is this the case?

also Obviously i want a bit more Accel off the line and a higher top speed, i'd like to be able to hit 50 ish for the dual carriageways, so what will i need?

im guessing tighter clutch springs, but how tight? i don't want it to be thrashed everywhere but would like it a little better off the line (like i said its great as soon as it hits is "powerband" but until then its sluggish (could be the plug, will check tomorrow) )

lighter rollers (how light will they need to be anyone know? don't want stupid fast and putting more strain on everything but just something to make it rev a tad higher up the hills If someone could recommend me)

exhaust seems to be blowing a tad but don't want to buy a leo zx as they are a bit pricey for what im using the ped for, and can't be arsing around with a new carb, having enough trouble boiling the carb on my ovetto etc... wouldn't mind upjetting if someone could recommend but don't want to buy all diff sizes to try them all

I'm not a cheapskate its just i dont want to make it stupid fast etc just tweak it to around 50 and a better pickup through the lower range would suit me fine.

Other than that I think its a top quality ped and would recommend one to anyone to be fair to kymco.

Sorry for the long post and also if anyones selling any parts that would fit a yup 50 or mbk ovetto/yamaha neos i'd be pleased to know!
thanks very much for reading and i hope someone will be able to help me out! x

    regards
(also may add a vid to this page or something so people can see)

You need some lighter rollers mate, what weight are the ones you have? I would suggest going about 0.5g to 1.0g lighter than you already have and that should sort this.

A set of 5g rollers would be about right.

As for the jet, you don't need a bigger one unless you change the exhaust. A Leo vince tt is £71 I think, and comes with rollers too. Bit more affordable than the ZX,and even if you sell it for £30 when you get rid of the Ped its only cost you £40 odd quid

TT makes the same power as the ZX but doesn't rev as high, so not great for top speed, but will do 50-55 with great power low down :)

And you will need to weigh the rollers mate

Sounds good! Well, not the roller ;)

If you get that TT pipe you will get the correct rollers with it :)

yeah i don't want to be going as a lunatic everywhere, just 50 on flat would be nice, I don't think its really meant to do much more than that lol, as when I go to work im straight on a 50 mph dual carriageway

Oh btw, I think these peds are restricted in the variator, but it's built in and needs to be machined or replaced

I think the hi vis makes them think I'm someone coming home from work or something lol

anyway guys, any advice would be great but I'm off to work

I feel like i've missed something here...

If the bike is totally stock then that's just the power you are going to get. Changing clutch springs/rollers wont do anything but make the performance worse.

To get more performance you need to add power in some way then resetup the transmission and carb to make the most out of it.

The first mod is probably a sports exhaust as said by others and then you would need to lower the weight of the rollers and fit slightly stiffer clutch springs. You would probably also need to upjet.

but don't the clutch springs just hold the centrifugal clutch arms in until it reaches a certain rpm regardless of power, and the rollers get thrown out at certain rpm regardless of power?
