Hello, well im 17 soon and im looking at cars to get. i have heard that some cheap crappy cars are the best on insurance? i heard that Nissan Micras (Old Shape) http://www.google.co.uk/imgres?q=Ni...7&tbnw=189&start=0&ndsp=28&ved=1t:429,r:2,s:0 Old Mini Cooper http://www.google.co.uk/imgres?q=Ol...3&tbnw=202&start=0&ndsp=28&ved=1t:429,r:2,s:0 The two above ones are apprently cheap to insure. Anything apparently over 25 Years Old Is Free Tax?? Not sure if that is true but thats why im asking YOU! also what sort of car is best to learn in, i want to learn in manual car but everyone around this area seems to say automatics are better. what would you say?
Automatics are best? WTF! Maybe by "best" they mean "easiest" but if you do you test in one you can ONLY drive automatics after that. Learn to drive properly in a car thats got a manual gearbox! Tax wise the car needs to be made before 1973 to be free, not just over 25 years. If you want to see insurance groups then go here; http://www.parkers.co.uk/cars/reviews/facts-and-figures/
Agreed, in general automatics are pants. If you really want one pass your manual test then get an auto at least then you have the option to drive both. You also have to think that if in the future you got a company car or van from work, you will almost certain have to get a manual due to fuel efficiency, tax and how much more an auto is to buy over a manual. Have a look at the below link and there are some useful tips to lower car insurance: http://www.scootershack.co.uk/car-chat/first-car-idea-s-t23878.html
im definitely going to learn in a geared car and stick with a geared car, their more enjoyable by far lol same as geared bikes are more enjoyable than scooters but scooters look better modified and tuned
im not 100% but im sure the insurance is cheaper with newer cars being safer in accident and harder to steal?
When i was insuring my 1st car bout 5 months ago they told me to get something newer than 2002, which is worth at least a grand. For example u could buy a 1998 corsa for £500 and the insurance be 2500. Or u could buy a 2004 corsa for 1500 and the insurance be around 1500. Which one would u rather have? The new one hands down lol. They put up insurance on older cars because they see it as u dont care about the car, and your more likely to drive it like u dont care, and crash lol.
The free tax cars are up to January 1973 only. My dad's pissed cos he got a March 1973 MG and has to pay tax and can't have black number plates.
Get an old mini, girls will always wanna go out in it with you and insurance is about £900 with Footman James (classic insurance)
And mr.bizzle, your dad will get away with black and white plates if it's an L reg, as L was for '72 and '73 (if a copper sees it he will just see that it's an L reg)
for the record, one of my old mans cars is an auto, and its much MUCH faster then his jabba sport blowered vw corrado... OK its an auto with a donovan V8 but still.... er i forgot what i was saying.... buy a piaggio ape and 172 it!
