Hi guys just unsure on the fitting on my speedfight 2 100cc for the head and exhaust as it dosent sit flush with the head When I got the bike the exhaust was flush against the head but the piston and barrel needed replacing so I changed them and now it won't sit flush is it normal for there to be a gap in have the ring gasket for the exhaust as well
It doesn't always sit 100% flush and you may snap the exhaust studs trying to achieve that. The copper or aluminium gaskets are designed to squash and take up the gap, creating the seal. As long as there is no leak at the header when the engine is running then not sitting flush is OK.
Is it normal for the exhaust pipe not to go in the cylinder it just sits against the gasket shown in the 1st pic
I presume that you have taken the old copper exhaust washer out and fitted a new one before putting the exhaust on..? Check that the exhaust header fits into the head with no sealing washer present at all.
The washer is desgined to squash as I said, so it does need the washer to make a seal. I hope that you fitted the new one...
This is my first scooter I've had and all other bikes I have worked on the exhaust pipe always sat in the cylinder a few mm so was just unsure on how it should be on these and yeah I fitted the new 1 I'm doing the bike up as it was a mess when I got it
